Temporarily Disappointed With WA Because of New Patch

This item was filled under [ (PC) World Adventures, The Sims 3 Series ]

So, I’ve been playing as much as I could for the past couple of hours and I only got to experience France and I made my Sim leave the first day of the trip rather than wait out the three days.  Why?  Because the game lags like hell and I could no longer get to play it without frustration.  It took about ten minutes or so just to load France.  When I scroll through the screen (surprisingly I did see the entire France) it takes seconds just to move and sometimes it moves too far.  Even when I went to CAS to browse through the new styles, it took a few minutes just to load all of the tops in the every day section.  Just the tops alone!  My game has never acted this way before and it’s all because of that wretched patch that I just had to install the night before getting WA (which came with loads of wonderful new features).  My game before that patch worked just fine… or rather… it ran very fast on max settings with absolutely no lag.  This began with the patch, so it’s really not the fault of the new EP.  It’s a shame because I can tell WA is very fun to play from the little bit I experienced.  Even the Sims in France look very French with French names (not that we didn’t know that, but still).  This is the only disappointment is the speed issue, most likely due to the new patch.  I have to restore my computer back to its original factory settings since it’s a process I’ve been meaning to do since before I got WA.  It will take a few hours but once I reinstall Sims 3 and WA, this time I will not patch it to see if that makes a difference.  My PC is a very good one, too: Vista 64-bit, 2.5 ghz quad core, 8 gb RAM, 750 gb hard drive, and the graphics card is listed as one of the ones that meets the requirements, though, it won’t hurt to get a much better one (and I’ll be getting Windows 7 while I’m at it).  The point is, it’s a good PC and it ran Sims 3 perfectly, so it’s not the PC.  I actually purchased this PC back in March for the purpoise of being able to play Sims 3.  I am just betting it’s the new patch and it’s funny, too, because I still never had any issues with previous patches, despite others having issues with them.  I guess it was my turn now.  What a tease!  I want to play the game now but I should not have to lower the settings and play with crappy graphics.  It’s like an alcoholic locked in a room with a bottle of liquor within reach.  :(

This does not count as my review, so I will still post a review in the near future; just not sure when.  This is more of a rant and a slight warning in case this happens to anyone else.  I’m off to take care of my PC, so wish me luck (I’m going to need it)!  I’ll update if and when there are no issues.

“…this time I will not patch it to see if that makes a difference.”

Sorry bud, but that won’t work. You NEED to patch the game before installing it. I tried installing the game before the patch (because I heard it screwed up some people’s games) and the installer gave me an error message saying that I need to patch before installing the expansion.

I am sorry that you have to go through with this. Floris, Installing a patch is required? Why is that? To prevent it from being pirated? I am sure this issue goes the same thing for other people as well. I have not gotten the game yet until Dec or Jan.

To get the complaints to EA, and they will solve this issue ASAP.

that’s it. not getting the game unless the patch is fixed (and even then, i prolly wont get the game til I have money I can spend frivolously.

none of the patches before this one ever hurt my game, and i don’t download mods or stuff not official from the sims after issues with my sims and sims 2.

i’m sorry Frankie – i hope EA helps the ppl who got screwed from the patch before they help those of us who didn’t.

As much as a fanboy I am for the series, I’m actually glad for a change I did not go out to buy the expansion. I’d be madder then hell if I had a $40 paperweight.

This is worrying and unfortunatly a common place with many EA Games, EA are skimping on testing and its causing lots of issues, they are also destroying great games (SimCity).

Don’t flame me, EA are a brilliant company, but they have become blinded by their own success lately and I never thought it would affect The Sims franchise like it has on other franchises.

topleya – it’s a hard fact to swallow but its tru. its happening to alot of companies, not just EA.

i also hoped my sims games would always stay on top, but it’s like staying in a sucky relationship….lies but the game is sooo gooood. lol

Thanks, guys, that was kind of you. Yes, I’d be careful with buying WA for the time being because that patch is bad news. You guys are right… EA has been seriously slacking off with the development of patches. And WA is NOT worth $40, though it is worth $30 if fixed. :(
