My Computer Failed Me
Unfortunately my desktop is a bit screwed up at the moment. It won’t function until it’s been reformatted since I had started the process and it stopped and went to some sort of inescapable sleep mode that forced you to hold the power button down in order to shut it off since none of the keys nor the mouse worked. Every time I put the disc in, it would do this. So, I couldn’t get past 17% of the progress for my PC to be restored to its original factory settings. I phoned HP Tech Support and apparently the recovery discs that I paid $20 for from HP months ago were incompatible with my PC, even though they were for the model I own. It’s because my PC was bought at BestBuy, not directly from HP. So I have to shell out another $20 to get the “right” discs. How was I supposed to know this when I purchased these recovery discs months ago? I spent over three hours on the phone with tech support and the guy had me take the damn PC apart and what have you, and for nothing. What a waste! It’s either the “right” recovery disks or buy Windows 7. And as much as I prefer Windows 7, my one-year warranty (which expires in March 2010) will automatically be voided if I go that route. So, it’s a lose-lose situation.
Jeez, what a day! I get so excited to pick up my copy of WA expecting to spend a good amount of playing so that I can get my review up and ready and even answer questions from any of you, and now this happens. So I’m on my new laptop that I purchased at BestBuy two weeks ago, which has Windows 7 and good specs, but the Sims 3 doesn’t run quite as fast on it and the settings are almost maxed, not as maxed as in my desktop (though still faster than after installing the latest patch on my desktop). It must be the graphics card in this case because the other specs exceed the minimum requirements, but laptop graphics cards cannot be replaced. I’ll still try to play WA on here and see if it’s tolerable. If so, I may not do my review right away but I can still answer questions. And as I said in a comment a few minutes ago: I’d be careful with buying WA for the time being because that patch is bad news. EA truly has been slacking off with getting their patches function correctly. I don’t get it. Whatever happened to “Let There Be Sims?” I wish another and more respected company took the series over. I have owned every pack, too, so it’s not like they’re not getting my money. *sigh*

That really sucks Jud
Installing WA didn’t go too well here. Had to remove the disk a few times in order to get the installation back to actually installing. It’s installed now but I did came across quite a few bugs and that’s without the patch. I’m too careful atm, don’t want to install the patch and ending up not being able to save (and what not).

No, it was me who wrote it, lol, but thank you. Sorry to hear you had issues with WA. I didn’t have trouble installing it, however, it did take a long time to install. Good news, though! WA runs perfectly on my laptop on near max settings. It only has very tiny lag here and there but that is because of my laptop, not the game, as WA still runs the same speed as the base game alone. And my laptop is not as powerful as my desktop, therefore, the latest patch is indeed the culprit for screwing up my game on the desktop and causing it to run extremely slow and choppy to the point of me refusing to play. So, I’ve been playing now on my laptop and it’s fun so far. Since it was getting late and I didn’t want to spend too much time creating a Sim, I just decided to use Ms. Crumplebottom. Though, I forgot she is a loner, so it’s a challenge getting her to have a happy trip while still meeting new people. I started with France again since I may as well finish exploring it before moving on to the others. Oh, and the countries load very quickly! Not even one minute… literally! So again, it’s the latest patch… or rather… the patch that was released just before WA. I’ll update some more soon and feel free to ask any questions!

Hahaha oh I’m sorry Frankie! I’m so used to Jud posting here I forgot you joined the team a while ago. Shame on me lol!
The game took a long time for install for me too. It runs fine like the base game. Although I did have some bugs. Just hope there won’t be too many.
Glad to hear you can play now
And again, my apologies for confusing you with Jud :P

Oh, thank you and no need to apologize! I totally understand why you’d get confused since where it says who post what is in very tiny text, and because I’m still new here. As for WA, I have yet to notice bugs but I’m sure they’re there, which sucks. I’m definitely not looking forward to them.

I know this have nothing to do with ur problem (sorry though) but when u fix it can u tell me is there any new painting that our sims can paint and why we didn’t see anything about the martial arts masters magical power? cuz it’s really the best feautre in the game , don’t u think so?

How can one little game cause so many issues? Sheesh…they really need to stop rushing their dang products to the store shelves and using us to test them.
I hope their sales flop cause of this (even though it would require more people to lose their jobs – just get rid of the CEO). And this is right after EA CEO stated that they were cutting all of the games so they could focus on quality control. Yeah, quality my ass.
It sucks to see you – or anybody – having to go thru this. I hope you didn’t loose any of your personal files

Jud, no, fortunately I have everything I needed in my external hard drive since the restoration was my initiation. It saddens me that several of these patches failed. They are going to lose quickly and I hope so. I’m sorry but they need to learn their lesson.

Lolifoto, I didn’t notice any new paintings that you can paint, so probably not, but there are new wall hangings. I guess the main focus of art was the new photography skill. As for martial arts, there is no “magic” per se. What you are thinking about is this green glow around them during meditation while they float in the air, which means that they have reached the maximum of the moodlet that you get for meditating and therefore you are able to “zeneport” (it’s basically just teleporting). However, once you do so, it breaks away from concentration and you have to meditate again to continue teleporting. Any other martial arts questions, feel free to ask. The guide specifies all this, including belt colors per level, what woods you can break, etc.

Oh, and my desktop is at BestBuy for a few days. Apparently they can still work on it and fix it as per the warranty it came with. Then later on i will purchase the full version of Windows 7 since I no longer want Vista. Wish me luck!

Whew, hope Best Buy can fix everything for you. Warranties save…I’m currently getting a flatscreen repaired as the LCD screen went bad – warranty expires at the end of this month too!

Cool! I hope that works out! However, I nevber got that BestBuy extended warranty. That is too much money and I usually know how to take care of a computer, just that I got the wrong restoration disc. However, i found out that Windows 7 can possibly take care of that. If I get the full version, you won’t need a restoration disc because essentially that is what it is doing. So I may go that route since I do want Windows 7 and it will not include any bloat/crapware. Thus my PC will run faster with a clean and Windows 7 OS. Granted, installing it will void the Warranty, but as long as it will work, it’ll be worth it since the warranty will expire in March. And all this time my PC was fine. We’ll see! But until then, I still have my laptop. Thank God they serve such great use as backup computers.

I could probably answer some questions
