New Education Career is . . . . A Rabbit Hole :-(
I found this while looking through the SimTimes hands-on article, it confirms that there is an education career but unfortunately it reveals the fact that the school is still a rabbit hole. Here is the article exert (loosely translated from German):
The school building was the only building in which one can not practice any profession. This changes with The Sims 3: Ambitions. Because now your Sims can run through the profession of education and from primary school through the High School teacher and superintendent bishin to direct the career ladder to climb. The school building remains, however, a Rabbit Hole. Thus, the prospective teachers during their work disappear behind the doors of the school building

It’s ok to leave it as a rabbit hole. I don’t think it’ll work without it being rabbit hole.

Yeah kind of old news.
Reason why they didn’t talk about that career is because they didn’t want people to get confused with the new professions (open jobs).

I know the education career is old news, I meant it in the sense that it is going to be a new career when the game comes out

I’d still rather have a plethora of rabbit-hole careers than only a few “open jobs.” I’m still waiting for my piano and nightclub. Those two things are so basic that it’s odd not having them around. I’m sure they will come, just that EA makes fans wait longer for whatever it is that they want. We shall see!

That’s expected. The school wouldn’t work as an interactive building, due to all the children in the town using the same building every day.
It would be extremely difficult, if not impossible, for your Sim to go to the school, have all the kids in the town get in to class, have your Sim teach them, then have them all go home, while still making the career as interactive and engaging as all the other non-rabbit hole careers.
Sure the idea of handing late slips to tardy kids, thereby affecting the grades of the whole town, issuing report cards and detention sounds great in theory, but I just don’t think it would work in-game. Mostly because there’s already a massive problem with Sims clustering outside buildings in droves, creating congestion and never getting inside. That would just add to the problem.

@Luke I meant old news as in it’s rabbit hole career where we can’t see anything. I hang out too much on the official site reading about it and seeing Grant confirm it.

Oh, ok, sorry, I misunderstood what you meant.

Ashleigh825 hit the nail right on the head. It’s just far too tedious. Hell, even doing that with the medical career would be tedious. That’s why at least with the doctor career it’s partially open. Not very many people would play a household of eight Sims if all of the jobs and schools were open. It’d be impossible or nearly impossible to succeed while still having to take care of the actual Sims. You wouldn’t have time to play anything else. Also, rabbit holes help reduce lag in the game. Imagine the extreme lag of an open school. Nightclubs and restaurants, however, or just places to socialize, could be open for sure because they are different and not everyone would go to those places simultaneously. Whereas all children and teens have to go to school and at the same time.

What I’d like to know is do all the kids in the Hood go to the school? As in can you see them travel there and go in? Can you influence there day like in some of the career Rabbit Holes?

It’s ok with the rabbit-holes. I’m looking forward to the educ career. I would like some other new careers as well, even with rabbit holes.

Ugh, that sucks
I’m still just happy to have a school career, though

This was my most favourite career in Sims 2 and I’m soo excited it’s making a comeback – I felt ripped off there was a school, yet no education career…
