The Sims 3 Ambitions Hand-on event in Taiwan

One of our readers, Amy, passed along a couple of links from another Ambitions fan event which was held in Taiwan.  Impressions and pictures have been posted, check out the sites below!

So we got to play The Sims 3: Ambitions on Friday, May 21, 2010.  As usual, I have to skip work to try the new game out.  When I got there the game has already been turned on, so I just sat down and started playing.  By the way, we had this Hand-on session in a restaurant, so we ate quite a lot of food during the session.  I was kind of stupid that I had forgotten to take pictures, just a couple.

First thing I noticed was there is a new neighborhood, it’s huge and the PM in Taiwan told me that it is inspired by the towns of Southern America .  The name, which I looked up later is Twinbrook, because I was playing The Sims 3: Ambitions in Chinese.  It’s pretty and big, which I don’t like.  My sims always live quite far away from the town and it usually took about an hour for them to get to work and places. :P  The view of the town is beautiful, but it’s just too big.  I really didn’t see much, because I want to get into the game right away, but from what I saw afterward on the other people’s computers, the houses are more country looking.

Perhaps there’s a lot of Sims2 shadow repeat, but also more playability that complies with the requirements of the player for Sims are always feel enough real details. In the past and is now a combination of new practices and how to play, some people think that there is no continuity to the past, but there are people who think this is another breakthrough, but it seems to me that there is a gain in the past to play even if you do not have the same but it can also be identical, as long as we maintain a degree of freedom for Sims itself to create campaigns and preferences better data. I believe that EA’s creative team is watching the right players feel, not really own the to do development. Due to technical considerations have not been able to reach all requirements, improve takes time; that the listing of each slice in addition to the contents of the Sims in the past for a combination of both, will create more innovative style and is no longer the only continuity.

Examiner – The Psychology Behind Simming

Passing this out for the readers as The Sims Community’s VRevis wrote a lengthy article on Examiner about the psychology behind The Sims.  Love it, she pretty much nails the point about why the game – and community – is as great as it is (yeah, I may of reworded that wrong, but you catch my drift):

“There is an incredible community that has developed from this game”

Although the game itself is a one-person-game, one point most can agree on is the benefit of the community surrounding the game. The Sims community is huge, with forums on the official sites, and many smaller forums and websites across the world. People develop true friendships that go beyond game-discussion.

When asked on Simbology, a site dedicating to modding the Sims 2 game, “what keeps you coming back to the Sims game?”, many were quick to bring up the community aspect.  “If you’re a Sims player, there are so many sites to join, participate in and have fun with. The spirit of the ‘community’ is something really special, and I don’t think it has been duplicated with any other game quite as much. We’re like our own little neighborhood, and everyone knows each other pretty well.”. Another states, ” You can be a part of a real community; friends that help with your problems – be it  gameplay, pc (or mac, etc) and any part of your offline life you want to share.”

EA Underground – Interview with Sims 3 Community Manager Andrea Wendland

I received an email that EA Underground published an article on our very own Community Manager, Andrea Wendland.  It’s nice to know for a change what a CM’s job really is like…and by the looks of it, it does indeed sound very busy!  Thanks to EntirelySims for the email!

As Andrea Wendland puts it, “working in The Sims studio is very fast paced since we produce more games than most studios.” Her job as the Lead Producer for The Sims 3 website then makes her the person that needs to make sure all the studio’s happenings are being communicated properly to the world (yes, I mean world). Because of this, she has more meetings in a day than I have in a week. She starts her days off with an international conference call with other EA employees, then she meets with the web engineers, then with the marketing and game team, then with community managers, and finally the with store team. And all this is before she actually sits at her desk to do some work. More >
