SimAnimals/Spore Hero composer ‘Winifred Phillips’ now on Facebook/Twitter
Jun 21st
Award winning composer Winifred Phillips is now on Facebook as well as Twitter! Perhaps you are not familiar with her name – that’s understandable…but if you play videogames, and enjoy the music, chances are high that you’ve heard of her work.
In the world of EA Games, she was the one responsible for bringing us both the SimAnimals and Spore Hero Original Soundtracks – but she has worked on many other games. Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga’Hoole, Speed Racer, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, God of War, The DiVinci Code, The Maw, Shrek the Third (gotta give my love for this game as I am a fan of the movies) and even Little Big Planet 2! I’m sure everyone out there had to play at least one of those games.
Back to the original point of this post, like I mentioned above she can be found on both Twitter and Facebook. She’s kind of new to social media, so if you have a minute, feel free to drop by either page and give her a warm welcome. I’m sure she’d appreciate hearing from you!

ARS Technica – From SimCity to Real Girlfriend: 20 years of sim games
Jun 21st
A huge 6 page article on the many simulation games that have been released over the past 20 years. I’ve been a hardcore Maxis fan, passing by all of the other simulation games…after reading this article, I must say I’m going to explore the other fantastic games – Tropico 3, Cities XL 2011, Virtual City, and Space Colony all look like fun to play.
In researching this article, I came across two major stumbling blocks. First was the seemingly innocuous question, “What is a sim game?” Some critics take the narrow view that only vehicle sims can claim the label, while others think immediately of the Sim franchise (of which SimCity, SimAnt, and The Sims are perhaps most famous) developed primarily by Maxis and Will Wright.
Others take a holistic view, insisting that anything which accurately models or mimics real-life or real-life systems should be considered a sim game—but this is particularly subjective since it requires a definition of what, precisely, constitutes an “accurate” model and it rules out sims set in the future.

GameSpot’s Sound Byte – Meet composer Winifred Phillips
May 20th
It’s always a pleasure listening to Winifred Phillips, her voice as well as her music. Her talent was featured in many games: Spore Hero, SimAnimals, Shrek the Third and God of War. The latest work of art coming from her studio is Little Big Planet 2 for the Playstation 3. Catch an excellent behind the scenes video in which she discusses her past, how she got into the industry, what the creative process is like and much, much more! I hope that EA has more plans for her in the future as it’s been awhile. Fingers crossed that someday she’ll be contracted out to do a future Sims title.
