May 13th
EA Mobile on Facebook, put up a poll. The winner will have 50% (or more) cut off the price. The choices are:
- TETRIS® for iPad
- The Sims 3
- Need for Speed™ Hot Pursuit for iPad
- Max and the Magic Marker

Which sounds more worthy of a half price sale? The poll ends on May 15. So if anyone doesn’t have The Sims 3, this a fantastic deal to get it at half price.

VlogBrothers – 1990′s Sim Games. SO GOOD!
May 11th
I hope I can be as energetic as this dude when I begin my videos. Doubt it, though. Either way this video is pretty good in flashing back to where Sim games were a bit simpler.
In which Hank talks about the lessons he learned growing up playing simulation games (and does a very good job of not complaining about how mindless gaming has become.)
Sim Games taught me a huge amount about my world and also about who I am. From SImCity I learned that as much as a third of a city is taken up by its roads. From SimEarth I learned what that crustaceans existed before fish. From SimTower I learned that things are never as simple as they seem. From Civilizaiton I learned that peace is orders of magnitude more difficult and less glamorous than war. From Tycoon games I learned the value of opportunity and also how to be careful not to squander the value you have.
It seems a little silly, but there it is. You can get a lot of these games for free (all you need is DOS BOX and a good google search if you’d like to try them out.
EA CEO: EA will soon become all digital
May 10th
Electronic Arts is aware that the future of gaming lies in digital content and wants to eventually move away from physical discs. In fact, EA CEO John Riccitiello is planning to completely convert the gaming giant.
“Over the coming years, we will transform EA from a packaged goods company, to a fully integrated Digital entertainment company,” Riccitiello said in an earnings call yesterday, according to a transcript posted on investment news site Seeking Alpha. “We’re transforming EA to a games as a service model by focusing on three new strategies.”
The day this happens, I don’t know what I will end up doing. Leave the franchise? Shut down the site? I love that the option of having a digital download is available, but strictly going digital and losing everything physical? This blows in my opinion. I’m a collector, I love supporting The Sims franchise…but if I can only get them thru EA’s Download Manager, then it’s game over for me. Heck, I don’t even hardly have any Steam games because I prefer having a disc copy… And to think they’ll still charge full price for a game after they no longer have to spend the cost for packing materials and sending the game out to retailers.
Sorry, Riccitiello….if you really are deciding to go down this path, I suspect there will be people taking advantage of digital downloads – just not by legal standards.

Concept art from “The Simpsons Game” spoofs The Sims
May 5th
Concept artist Joe Spiotto spent some time working on The Simpsons Game, and while going thru the files on his computer, came across some artwork that he’d drawn to use in a videogame store within the town of Springfield. Apparently EA did not like the idea of his spoof on The Sims. You can see why below:
Little did I know when I would create this image as a bit of a joke at The Sims expense, that the next year I would be working on “The Sims 3″ designing clothes for all of the characters… I don’t know why they didn’t approve this image.

European fans, EA Store is holding one heck of a great deal for Easter Weekend – 50% off on all titles! Sweet! When I first heard about this yesterday, there was no mention of location, so I was extremely excited…until I went to the EA Store and found all the games at full price still. Turns out it is only available in Europe. Arrrgghhhh! I still need to get the console versions of The Sims 3!
EA launches their digital Game Manuals site
Apr 5th
I was meaning to get to this last week, but of course, I forgot. As it was announced earlier, EA is planning on ditching game manuals for their upcoming games. Rather, the manuals will be found on the Game CD instead or offered on their EA Game Manuals website. It’s going to take some time for them to build up their library, but check out their site and search for the game you would like a manual for to see if it exists!
Thanks to Sims Nieuws for the tip!

EA’s The Sims backs Comic Relief 2011
Mar 22nd
EA is on another good streak with me in terms of helping those in need. MCV announced that EA will be donating £1 for every copy of The Sims 3 – expansions & console games – during the months of February and March to the Comic Relief charity. So if you happen to have bought any Sims 3 games between that time, you are taking place in raising thousands – and for a good cause!
“Humour is an integral part of how Sims fans play with life in the game, so we’re naturally excited to be aligning with a worthy cause like Comic Relief as a supporting partner,” UK product manager Bolu Akindoyin told MCV.
