MySims Camera
WiiNintendo – MySims Camera DSiWare review
Feb 22nd
Have you ever gotten bored with your DSi cameras? Well, if you are a MySims fan, EA has the product for you. MySims Camera is essentially a camera “add-on” for your DSi. You can either take photos from within the application or use photos already saved on your DSi system memory. What do you do with these photos? Add in MySims characters (8 available at the start) and draw on them.

The control is done entirely via the DSi touch screen (except for the ability to also take photos with the L or R buttons if you choose to do so). The app starts with the menu screen that looks similar to the DSi Camera. You get options to exit, get help, access your photo album, create or use a photo frame, take a photo, and edit a photo. In the center, you can cycle through all the photos on your DSi system memory. While inside the editing room, you get a menu bar across the top and left side of the touch screen. Basically, you will choose a MySims character, change their size/angle/placement, cycle through to get a desired pose and expression, and that is it. You can place up to 3 MySims in your photo. You also have the option, as stated earlier, to doodle on your photo using pens of various sizes and colors. You can also use the eyedropper to use doodling colors that aren’t available by selection (red, yellow, blue, black, white, and rainbow). I honestly have no problem with the touch screen controls. It only seems logical for a camera application.

BricaSims discovered a video review on YouTube covering MySims Camera for the DSi. There are also 8 screengrabs from the video…After viewing this…I don’t think it was a bad idea at all. I hope EA will consider porting this to the iPhone…but considering there are no MySims games for Apple’s product, I have my doubts.
NintendoLife – MySims Camera DSi reviewed

Overall, My Sims Camera is a somewhat strange application with very limited features and a somewhat superfluous nature. There aren’t many options to choose from and saved photos appear a little washed out. The program also runs a little choppily, as though it is taking a while to access the photos on the system memory. My Sims Camera’s saving grace is its relatively low price, and when you consider that Nintendo have charged the same for clock applications and calculators, My Sims Camera isn’t a terrible purchase. Saying that, unless you’re a fan of the series it’s perhaps best to steer well clear of this title.
IGN: MySims Camera DSi reviewed

Ouch. One big ouch, that’s what the MySims team might be thinking after reading IGN’s review of their Camera application for the Nintendo DSi. According to IGN, you’re better off buying a bundle of stickers…
There is one other thing MySims Camera does: remind you to purchase the upcoming MySims Agents. This thing is basically an advertisement for EA’s line of games. These characters are not as iconic as Electronic Arts wishes the are. It’s not like I’m able to put Disney or Nintendo characters into my photos. No, I’m putting in one of those random girls from that mediocre kart racer that came out earlier this year. If EA wants to pimp their character, more power to them, but when it feels like an advertisement it should be free.
Personally, 200 points isn’t a lot. I see no problem…Of course it would be nice if it was free, but hey, this is EA. If they can make a quick buck, they’re going to try.

Thanks to EA for allowing me to repost the example pictures from MySims Camera for the Nintendo DSi. They also sent over two example pictures of the app in action. Now I wouldn’t mind owning a DSi just for the few ideas I have in mind :P
