MySims SkyHeroes
MySims SkyHeroes concept art from Olivier Raymond
Jun 1st
It’s always interesting (well to me, anyhow) to see concept art from games and movies, thus I’m posting the following link to Olivier Raymond’s Sketch Blog. He worked on a few art pieces for MySims SkyHeroes that was released last year. He was responsible for designing a few maps, power up icons and a few assets for the loading screen. Thanks to Dentface from MySims Wiki for the info!
Christian Mercier – Concept art for MySims SkyHeroes and MySims Racing
Mar 8th
I don’t know why I didn’t lump these all up…but we’re almost done! Christian Mercier is a concept artist for the company A2M who was contracted via EA to work on MySims SkyHeroes and MySims Racing. He shares his work thru his portfolio site that you can find here. Thanks to SimCookie for picking this up.

Le Blog de Val – MySims SkyHeroes & Racing concept art

Amongst the many concept artist sites SimCookie spotted, there was a french artist who goes by the name of ‘Val’ that worked on MySims SkyHeroes and MySims Racing. She appears to now be with Warner Brothers games, so there is no telling if she’ll be contracted to work on future EA games. You can view her misc. artworks on her portfolio site, Le Blog de Val.

Concept art from MySims Agents and MySims SkyHeroes
Jan 28th
Some fairly old MySims concept art used for MySims Agents and MySims SkyHeroes was uncovered thanks to Dentface. The artist, Ben Seto, has more concept art on his portfolio website – including storyboard concepts for MySims Agents. Seeing these images makes me think what’s in store for the next MySims game in the series.
MySims SkyHeroes & MySims Agents 2 (canceled) Concept Art
Nov 14th
Dentface, everyone’s favorite MySims expert from MySims Wiki discovered 3 pieces of concept art from Genevieve G. Tsai, one of EA’s concept artists. The three pieces are of MySims SkyHeroes as well as MySims Agents 2, the sequel in which it appears to have been canned by EA (I had wished not, or perhaps they decided to take it in a different direction). You can find more cool artworks at Genevieve’s site, The Wuffles Sketchbook (heads up – its NSFW due to some adult content – and by all means, do not bug her or talk about MySims – please be respectful of her work!)

IGN – MySims SkyHeroes DS reviewed

Crash and burned…ouch :( Looking forward to picking all 4 games up in the Bargin Bin soon.
The DS version of MySims SkyHeroes is oddly more complicated and way less fun than the console versions. The story mode is missing the clever writing that I enjoyed in some of the previous MySims games, and the lack of variety in the missions makes most of them feel like a chore. The punishing gameplay takes away from what could be a really fun multiplayer experience.
GameSpot – MySims SkyHeroes Wii review

Thanks InfiniteSims!
The Wii version of MySims SkyHeroes comes with a full retail price, and the game tries its best to make it worth the cost. The problem is SkyHeroes stretches two relatively shallow, albeit accessible, game types over an excessively long Story mode where their AI problems are put on display over and over again. The multiplayer can be a source of some entertainment, but only lasts as long as the learning curve does–which is to say, not that long. Once players become experienced, it often just becomes a race to see who can gain the strongest power-ups while they’re not flying in circles. This might have worked well as a smaller, more limited, and cheaper product, but as a full retail offering, SkyHeroes never gets off the ground.

Gameplay is below-average at best. Players go around the maps picking up powerups and using them on opponents. There are a variety of powerups available but over time it becomes a very repetitive experience. The maps are rather large and offer differing challenges each time they are played, so overall there is just not a lot of variety within the title. Seeing as how you are a part of the SkyHeroes team during the campaign, you will find yourself playing many dogfights or races (these are the only two modes within the entire game). Some missions will find you working with your squad mates and others will have you against them. The problem is that it is essentially the same thing over and over at the end of the day.
Go Fanboy – MySims SkyHeroes PS3 review

More and more bad scores are piling on for MySims SkyHeroes. Knowing this fact, I should probably start to keep an eye on the clearance bins. It won’t have a long shelf life with the full retail priced games, that’s for sure!
Overall MySims SkyHeroes is another nice effort at providing kids with something to play, by results in being merely worth a flyby. EA wants to provide a coach flight for the price of a first-class ticket. With so many other games out there offering a better version of what SkyHeroes is trying to provide, there’s no sense in picking this one up. If you even bother renting, keep your parachute on, because you’ll be hitting eject quickly. SkyHeroes is available now at retail, but don’t bother.

Another badly scored review for the first flight MySims game, this time by GameSpot:
MySims SkyHeroes isn’t quite full retail price (it comes in at $49.99) on the Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3, but it really seems like the game tries its best to make it worth the normal cost. This might have worked well as a smaller, more limited, and cheaper downloadable product, but as a full retail offering, SkyHeroes never gets off the ground.
