Ghostbusters
Off on vacation to Dragoncon 2011, returning 9/4/11
Aug 31st
***Sticky post – check below for latest news***
Vacation time is finally here (been preparing for it since last October) and it’s time for me to temporarily pass the torch to the staff while I’ll be away amongst many friends and thousands of other geeks for DragonCon. I won’t have access to the internet, so I’ll pretty much be ‘in the dark’ for the few days that I am gone. Luckily, The Black Scorpion will be filling in the role of posting news as well as the rest of the staff! If you need to contact the gang, you can do some by a number of different ways (Facebook, Twitter, email) via jumping to the Staff Page. Sim webmasters that use twitter – I won’t be able to reply to your messages until Sunday, so please direct any responses here if it is of importance!
Now, I shouldn’t have to tell you that during the time I’m away, but please behave yourselves with the comments and remember to use them appropriately. Also, if you happen to find any mistakes in any of the news-posts, please alert the author but do so in a respectable manner. It’d make things so much easier :) I thank you if you can follow those simple rules.
Vince Clortho (on Thursday) —– 10th Doctor (on Friday) —— Ghostbuster (on Saturday)
For those that are wondering what DragonCon is, it’s the largest multi-media, popular culture convention focusing on science fiction and fantasy, gaming, comics, literature, art, music, and film in the universe! As you can tell, I’ll fit right in with Vinz Clortho (Keymaster of Gozer), the 10th Doctor (Doctor Who) and of course, a Ghostbuster. If anyone reads this and will be in attendance, try and find me! Also, I’ll be keeping an eye out in case I see a familiar looking green plumbob, as there has been many Sims in attendance in the event’s past years.
I shall return Sunday! “Allons-y!”
Happy Rapture Day!

Alabama Ghostbusters – Help our team fight multiple sclerosis!
Mar 19th
Update 3/19 – The Alabama Ghostbusters would like to thank those that donated to the National MS Society. With your donations, we were able to raise $142!
Update – Hell yes! You guys are amazing! I don’t know whom/how many of your donated, but we’ve reached $107.00 so far, surpassing our goal of 100. A huge – no, HUGE THANK YOU goes out to all of you that helped! *HUGS*
Talking a minute to step away from Sims to discuss a more important issue, multiple sclerosis. If you’re a long-time reader of the site, then you may already know that I’m a part of an organization known as the Alabama Ghostbusters. We are a bunch of geeks set out to do good in terms of raising money for various charities and putting a smile on people’s face (because let’s face it, everyone loves Ghostbusters).
I will be taking part this Saturday (March 19th) along with a few friends of mine to raise money for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society in the Walk MS Event, and we could use your help in raising money! We have a page set up in which you can donate (don’t let the high amounts scare you, you can enter amounts in intervals of $5 – its possible that it may accept other amounts, not sure exactly what the limit is).
Please help us reach our goal!
The number of people living with multiple sclerosis increases every hour of every day. This astonishing rate is not going to slow down, let alone stop, until we’ve found a cure. Research has made some incredible advances recently, but the world can still only offer disease management drugs and therapies to the 400,000 people living with MS in America.
We’ve formed a team for Walk MS because the National Multiple Sclerosis Society funds more MS research than any other private organization. In addition to supporting studies which hope to reveal the cause and course of the disease, the National Multiple Sclerosis Society also provides much needed education, programs, and services to everyone who is affected by MS – including the diagnosed, their friends and families, and the healthcare professionals who work with them.
Join the Alabama Ghostbusters as a walker or a volunteer! Make a donation online! Send in a check! There are so many ways to make a difference in the fight against MS, and it all begins right here.
We’re ready to help!
You know, spending all that dough at The Sims 3 Store could be put to better use
I thank you for your assistance in this matter!

Help us bust cancer for St. Jude Children’s Hospital *sticky until 11/20*
Nov 2nd
I’ve had a number of emails in the past of people wanting to donate to SimPrograms as they found this site to be extremely useful. At those times, I’ve been reluctant to put up a donation button because this site does not require the need to run off of donations, and to be honest, I don’t really want to make money from it – that is why I have a job
Just recently, I’d figured that instead of accepting donations for myself, to put it towards a great cause and use them to help others. After all – helping others was a huge reason in establishing this site in the first place. On November 20th, my town will be holding a 3 mile ‘Give Thanks‘ walk to help raise money for the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Under the Alabama Ghostbusters organization, I along with my family, girlfriend and a few Ghostbuster friends will take part in this walk to help ‘bust’ cancer and to raise awareness.
We’ve set up a donation page with a goal to raise $100 for the foundation. I would love to surpass that amount, but any amount raised will be great for the Hospital. If you have a few dollars to spare, we would greatly appreciate it to donate under our group’s name. So please, if you wish to help out SimPrograms, please consider this option. Thanks a million!

McBusters (Episode 1)
Sep 26th
Let me take a couple of minutes to go off topic and to post this video I came across of a mashup of my love for Ghostbusters and my hatred (used to work at McDonalds and stopped eating there since 2003) of McDonalds. I think the video is worth a few LOL’s, I enjoyed it! Please note that there are a few bad words tossed in.
The Sims 3 Official German Magazine Aug/Sept 2010 issue – interview with a Ghostbuster
Aug 27th
A couple of weeks back I told you I had a surprise for you in the August/September 2010 issue of the Official German Sims 3 Magazine. I was lucky enough (with the help of SimFans) to participate in an interview with EA Germany on the Ghosthunting career from The Sims 3 Ambitions. As you know, Ghostbusters is another passion of mine and I joined a costuming group known as Alabama Ghostbusters (our state franchise) to help out raising money for local charities and to have a good time sharing our passion of all things Ghostbusters related.
I went crazy over the fact that EA included ghost hunting as a career for the 2nd expansion – it kind of felt like they were in some way it was their thanks to me for the long-time fandom. Of course, I know that’s not true – but don’t spoil my moment of fun
Anyhow, since scans are frowned upon and I have a new camera, decided to take a shot of the said interview. It is in German, but I did save the original English text from when I sent it off to EA.
(A question or 2 may have been cut from the published article due to limited space, the text below was the full interview I submitted):
Full Name and Age: Judson Hudson – Age 24
Year since becoming a ‘Ghostbuster’: 2010
Description of Activity: Dress up as a Ghostbuster to help raise money for various Charities and attending conventions/events to hang out with friends.
Questions:
So what made you decide to become a Ghostbuster?
Ghostbusters has always been one of my most favorite films. I first started costuming back in early 2009 as a Stormtrooper from Star Wars. Problem is, I wasn’t that happy with it – I was dragged into that position by my sister. Later on, I discovered that in my state there was a local Ghostbusters franchise – Alabama Ghostbusters to be more exact (See their website at http://www.alabamagb.com/). Seeing that there was a huge group of Ghostbusters fans in my surrounding area, I decided to make the switch!
What do you do as a Ghostbuster?
Our (Alabama Ghostbusters) group mostly gather together to participate in various charity activities, attend conventions and generally socialize. Everyone shares a passion about Ghostbusters – whether it is the movies, the cartoon series – even fan-fiction!
Care to elaborate more on your charity work? What you do at conventions?
Sure! Past charity events include Relay for Life (American Cancer Society) and the National Multiple Sclerosis Society! We participate by raising money for the charities through taking pictures and even doing said activities. I, myself, am new to the group, so I’ve yet to be a part of any charities, but I’m looking forward to the day I can be of help!
As for conventions (events in which fans from everywhere attend to dress up as their favorite actor, cartoon character, video game character, and so on) we set up a booth and try to do our re-cruiting for new members as well as to socialize.
How were your reactions when you tried out the Ghost Hunting career in The Sims 3 Ambitions?
I loved it – it was a hoot! I understand that due to legal issues it had to part ways from actually being called ‘Ghostbusting’, but The Sims Team did an excellent job at capturing the performance of the job! I loved it when the ghosts would take possession of various household items – and seeing the residents panic and run out of the room!
If you could add on to the Ghost Hunting Career, what would you do?
I’d love it if it could be a group job where you can have up to 3 other Sims come with you as a team to help banish the ghosts and spirits! It’d even be pretty entertaining if the ghosts could put up a fight. Not to mention a dedicated vehicle for the profession would be nice!
Last but not least, have you yourself ever experience any paranormal events in your life?
I’m sorry to have to report but I do not happen to believe in Ghosts. I mostly follow the mentality of “if I see it, then I’ll believe it”. I’d love to be proven wrong and experience some sort of supernatural encounter!
Ghostbusters video game proton pack
Aug 10th
It’s to nobody’s surprise that I’m a Ghostbusters fan….I’ve covered a few articles on the game and shared some favorite quotes/moments from the movie. Well, for the past 2 months during my spare time I’ve been building a proton pack from Ghostbusters: The Video Game. This past weekend was the first time I donned the pack as there was a small con in town where everyone was able to dress up as their favorite comic book/movie/anime character for a few days and geek out. I was there supporting the Alabama Ghostbusters, and needless to say we were pretty much the stars (Well, technically the biggest group) of the event! There were about 10 Ghostbusters there, so no pesky poltergeist spoiled our fun!
Here are a few images of the pack, as well as a short skit I participated in (that in which my sister, who was Slimer, took Best in Show in the costume contest) as well as another ALGB member.
(P.S. – yes, that is me with a major wedgie in one of the above pics)
Seeking Sims 3 Community help with Ghostbusters project
Jul 10th
Post is a sticky, so see below for latest updates.
You should already be familiar that I’m a huge Ghostbusters fan and joined my states official Ghostbusting franchise – Alabama Ghostbusters. With the release of The Sims 3 Ambitions, EA introduced the ‘Ghost Hunting’ career, or to be more exact, the Ghostbusting career. Well, now that I had some thrills playing the default career, I want to make the game more ‘Ghostbuster’ friendly by adding in various items from the Ghostbusters Universe.
My main goal for this project is to create a replica of the Ghostbusters firehouse – or New York’s Hook & Ladder #8 firestation as it is known in real life. Shouldn’t be too difficult, the existing firehouse in Ambitions proves that with a little time, it can be done.
However, it’s not fun to create a standard firehouse with regular furniture. Oh no, that would be…say…boring. So that’s where you come in! I’m asking the community to pull together and to send in links of any various Sims 3 Ghostbuster or spiritual items that they can come up with! Items like a proper Ghostbusters uniforms, Proton Packs, the Ecto Mobile, PKE Meters, computer racks and equipment, containment unit, lab stuff, Vigo Painting, Ghostbusters sign, various paintings – anything that you can think of that would make the firehouse complete. A ton of reference photos can be found at GBFans.com – have at it!
Anyone willing to send in their items, I’ll be glad to showcase them on the site as well as add them to this post. As for my firehouse attempt, well it may be awhile before I have something to show, but hopefully I can pull it off! Good luck, you know how to reach me (either via commenting or sending me an email at Judhudson@knology.net)

Ghostbusters Ecto-1 vehicle for The Sims 3 Ambitions by xdarkshadowx

Ray: Everybody can relax, I found the car. Needs some suspension work and shocks. Brakes, brake pads, lining, steering box, transmission, rear-end.
Peter: How much?
Ray: Only $4800.
[Venkman looks shocked]
Ray: Also new rings, mufflers, a little wiring….
Bust ghosts in style with this awesome re-creation of the Ecto-1 from Ghostbusters by xDarkShadowx! It may not cost $4800…more like $15,000 but you won’t have to worry about the brakes, transmission, paintjob and equipment for it is already there!
The creator modeled it using Blender and changed a few things – specifically the logo as they wanted to incorporate the Simlish style as well as adding a few of the Ghost Hunting tools to the car. What really is awesome is that the lights work in the game!
Ghostbusters ‘Vigo’ painting by Thomas Riordan
Jun 22nd
Vigo the Carpathian…Or Vigo the Cruel, Vigo the Torturer, Vigo the Despised, and Vigo the Unholy. Fear him, for he is Vigo!
Now your Sims can give Vigo a home – he’s harmless (or so we believe…I wouldn’t stare directly in his eyes to find out). Yep, the evil villain from Ghostbusters 2 can be bought – or painted if your Sim has a level 5 skill. Maybe now you can finally paint him in a little kitten so he’d stop suffering from Carpathian Kitten Loss. This painting was brought to you by Thomas Riodan, thanks man!

Download the Vigo painting at GreenSims (requires The Sims 3 World Adventures to work)
