SimCity – Data Maps Part 2
May 22nd
Part 2? Crap! When did I miss part one?! Oh well. Man, seeing the SC3000 and SC4 maps brings back wonderful memories! The new SC/Glassbox water map looks awesome!
1. A fire in SimCity 3000: On left, the burning farm; on right, we see the flammability map with fire station. 2. “Fire Hazard” map in SimCity 4: Here, showing a Fire station (bright green), Fire Hazard in shades of orange and smoke rising up from an outbreak of a fire disaster. 3. With GlassBox’s sophisticated rendering engine, we are able to show data maps under buildings. Here we see the water table, a water tower and we see the water travelling from the tower to the houses around it.

No new info, just another preview.
Here it comes. He’s clicked the toolbar at the bottom, selected the coal power station he wants to build and he’s choosing where to place it on the map. As he swings the cursor across the landscape, a 3D model of the building hovers above the pointer, catching the momentum of the movement and swaying slightly as it goes. Click, he plops it down and, as he does, the building starts to hastily assemble and a bunch of buzz-saw and ratchet noises start to emanate from the construction site. Tiny sim-people are appearing in little vans, tools and ladders piled in the back; a brick chimney shoots up in the air triumphantly.

SimCity to be released in the first quarter of 2013?
May 8th
For the love of The Watcher! EA, please do NOT rush Maxis on this game. I hope they’ve been working on this for several years, otherwise I smell bugs in this upcoming game. I hope that’s not the case.
Maxis has now confirmed its launch for ‘Q4 fiscal year 2013′, which puts it down for launch any time from January to March 2013 on a normal person’s calendar.

What a slow news day thus far. If only someone would find some more info about EP and SP 7.
Well, then that building is going to burn down. But before that, the fire will likely spread to another building. And another. And another. It’s a panicked halfway house between the rather mathematical disasters of the earlier Sim Cities and the rolling chaos of The Sims. It’s also the butterfly effect at play, that one happy Sim on the other side of town unwittingly being responsible for mass property damage because they’re taking their sweet time hauling their futon up the stairs.

I wish these had more ‘preview’ to them instead of info we already know. Ya know? lol
Glassbox is the magic word in SimCity. It is the red thread of SimCity. It is the heart of SimCity. Indeed, the Glassbox engine is the most important thing the game has. It keeps the game going. Well, what does it all mean? In fact Glassbox the sails of the mill that keeps everything going. Think of the water, think of the delivery of coal, think of electricity for homes, think about sewage, so on.
