SimCity Series

Couple of SimCity 4 Posters

Graphic artist Ocean Quigley has gone back and posted a few things from his time spent on SimCity 4.  He’s shared with us a city poster rendered by Shannon Galvin which they used for marketing purposes, as well as a compilation of all the vehicles in the game put together by Michael Long.  Seeing this proves that we’re long overdue for a new SimCity game.  One can only wish, right? :D

Playfish, SimCity and China?

So EA/Playfish has a studio in China? Interesting…

When CityVille came out and quickly became the most popular game on Facebook, Electronic Arts had no choice but to “develop the hell out of Sim City” to make sure it was on par with Zynga’s city-building game, one source told us. Electronic Arts told the Playfish team in China to drop other games in development and work on Sim City.

Reason #212 why 3D Printers rock: SimCity 2000 Playset

I wish I had a 3D printer, from what I have seen, they look like they could be a blast to have…especially when you can print yourself out a SimCity 2000 playset.  Yes, I said playset – Skimbal over at Thingiverse used Google Sketch-Up to design the buildings and printed them out to design a real-life SimCity 2000 city.  He still has plans to work on many more buildings too!

Looking back at SimCity for SNES

I loved the Super Nintendo…in my opinion, it was the best console of all times.  Countless hours were wasted on the Donkey Kong Country Series, Super Mario World, Zombies Ate My Neighbors, and SimCity.  I still have my original SimCity game for the SNES, while I sold the other ones (I kind of wish I hadn’t).  You know, this reminds me…I may consider jumping onto Ebay and pick up an SNES and some of those games again.  Sure, you can get them on the Wii Console, but its not the same.

Interestingly, the Super Nintendo version of the game was developed internally by Nintendo themselves, which I believe accounts for the charm and polish not found in other versions. The core game remains the same: Zone areas as residential, commercial and industrial, set up transportation, make sure everything is receiving adequate power, then sit back and see if anyone decides to live in your little city, tweaking and adding additions as time marches on, all set to some very excellent music. There are certain buildings unique to the SNES version; occasionally, certain districts will develop in unplanned ways, such as schools or hospitals popping up. Additionally, at certain times you’ll be rewarded with structures such as parks, convention centers, and even a statue of Mario, assuming your city is doing well enough.

EA Adds SimCity 4 Patches to EA.com

At first it was thought that EA made a Facebook page in response to Herman Cain ripping off his plan from SimCity 4. But now there might be new evidence that this isn’t the real reason. Whist the SimCity 4 links on different EA and Sims sites redirect to the new Facebook Page, EA has recently uploaded the patches for SimCity 4 and SC4: Rush Hour and Deluxe to their site. They include patches for all regions. Could this be a coincidence or could it be a sign that EA has interest in the SimCity franchise again? Are we making too much out of this? Will we really see a Ghostbusters III and who really shot Mr Burns?

Herman “I don’t even know what SimCity is” Cain

Yeah…I’m calling BS on his response.  How can one person never even heard of SimCity?  I mean, you’d literally have to live underneath a rock – or in his case – a pizza box.  The sad fact is that he went and stated this instead of taking a few minutes to…you know, Wiki the game to read a little about it.  Would it be too hard to research a little bit of what the people are talking about?
