IntoMobile – EA showcases SimCity Deluxe and The Sims 3 Ambitions
Jul 20th
Last week, EA Mobile head a small showcase event showing off their games for mobile devices. IntoMobile was there to check out their latest works which includes SimCity Deluxe and The Sims 3 Ambitions for iPhone. The site did have a short preview online, but was quickly removed (probably due to publishing the story a little earlier than they should have). Luckily InfiniteSims caught the RSS feed and found the Google Cache Link. Both games are set to be released sometime this summer.
The original SimCity was released on the iPhone last year and now they plan to offer a bigger and better experience with SimCity Deluxe. The first thing I noticed in SimCity Deluxe was how it received a huge graphical overhaul compared to the previous SimCity title. The demo showed off a lot of detail in the buildings, roads, and other parts of your city. SimCity Deluxe allows players to create their own fictional city or play in cities based on real-world cities such as New York, London, and Los Angeles.
The advisors in SimCity Deluxe also received an updated look as now they’re sporting a more Sim-like look to them rather than the cartoony look in SimCity. As with all SimCity titles, your advisors will give you information on different parts of your city.
If you’re like me, you probably like to take out your aggression out on your city from time to time and SimCity Deluxe. That’s where disasters comes in. SimCity Deluxe not only includes these fun ways to cause mayhem in your city, but they’ve up their game by offering some new disasters. One disaster I saw during the demo was the Plague, which filled the screen with locusts which results in a dropping population (in other words, it kills the residents of your city.)
The Sims 3 took the iPhone by storm when it was released last year, with The Sims 3: World Adventures releasing this past Spring and doing equally well as the original game. Now EA Mobile is set to release its second expansion, The Sims 3: Ambitions.
The Sims 3: Ambitions allows players to pursue their Sims’ passion and hopefully fulfilling professions. Sure, you can decorate your apartment, make friends, and put out fires in your kitchen, but the point of The Sims 3: Ambitions is to follow specific guidelines that are set for your Sims’ profession in order to progress. Your Sim can ultimately be either a town hero or a town jerk, it all depends on the choices you make for your Sim.

I just love EA’s trickery. You have to purchase the game for your phone in order to win, however they claim that no purchase is necessary. Love the irony here.

IGN: SimCity Deluxe (iPhone) debuts in July
Jun 17th
IGN met up with producer Philip Cohen from the SimCity Deluxe development team at E3 and posted a follow up on the status of the game. It’s target release date is in July. Personally I can’t wait to get the game, the first one was enjoyable although had its share of issues. Hopefully this game can correct those problems.
Cohen quickly admitted that SimCity’s menus and interface needed a bit of work. In Deluxe, all of the multi-level deep menus have been replaced with overlay menus that do not take you out of the city-planning action. The disappearing buildings have been fixed, too. Now, sprites will scale smoothly when you zoom in and out of SimCity Deluxe.
SimCityDeluxe adds starter cities so players can jump right into a pre-made metro. These cities are based on real-world locations, such as Paris. There are also several scenarios you can play, which add structure to the game. For example, you must build up the city infrastructure in anticipation of an incoming world games event. Disasters are also in the mix. So, now you must watch for misfortune to befall your city, such as meteor strikes.
Know Your Mobile – SimCity Deluxe review
May 18th
SimCity Deluxe is a reboot of the original game in every respect, and while most franchises would suffer from trolling out the same old gameplay, something as infinitely playable and enjoyable as SimCity doesn’t suffer in the same way.
That it’s so easy to pick up and play on a mobile handset is a testament to the quality of its design, so if a game of SimCity Classic (which is what this game should really have been called) sounds appealing, then you’re in for a city-building treat.

What’s this? A new version of SimCity coming to the iPhone? Celebration is to be had! ElectricPig reports that EAmobile is working on SimCity Deluxe, expecting it to arrive some time in the summer of 2010. They label this as an “update” but it’s a bit unclear if this will update our existing game or if it’s a whole new game featuring many improvements. According to the article, the UI has been revamped and cities based on London, Tokyo, Cairo and Paris, complete with essential landmarks like Big Ben and the Eiffel Tower will be included.
