LGR – unboxing of SimCity Educational Version

Our favorite Lazy Game Reviewer takes a look at the SimCity Education Version, which is a special teacher’s edition of the original SimCity in which they could use in the classroom and assign various work to their students.  I never knew these educational versions existed – and was lucky enough to find an educational version of SimAnt that I hope to cover in the near future.

LGR – SimHealth DOS PC Game Review

i can’t believe I sat thru this whole video.  How boring (and I mean the gameplay – if you can call it that, not phreakindee’s commentary).  Then again, I hate politics with a passion, so yeah.  Not for me.  Still would love to have the silver boxed version of the game though – if anyone out there happens to have it or knows where I can track one down, let me know!!!

LGR – SimCity on the BBC Micro

I literally had no idea they made so many versions of the original SimCity.  It’s very hard to keep track of them all…worst of all, I am even familiar with the following version that Lazy Game Reviews covered in his latest YouTube video, SimCity on the BBC Micro.

This one is just a simple “let me show you what this game looks like” video, à la Steve Benway. The specific subject of this one is the port of SimCity for the BBC Micro computer system, played on my Model B.

Ancient DOS Games — SimCity review

Raise your hand if you still play the original SimCity from time to time.  I do find myself at the official Simcity website enjoying the good ol’ days.  Would love to have an older computer to play the version as the one in the video above, but got to work with what you have!

I do find it weird that nobody ported this to a Facebook game yet…Thanks to ZC456 for sharing this video :)

If SimCity had a movie poster…

It would look something like this:

This fanmade poster, from a gallery of various video game posters done up to look like movie posters, was created by Ron Guyatt.

I made this piece entirely in Photoshop, it took approx 17 hrs to complete after including alot of research, name finding & release date searching. I was surprised to find out about all the versions that came before the SNES version. The size of this poster is 11″x17″

I included a few things in the poster that were in the game. Such as the RCI indicator. The buildings and the poster itself was entirely created using only the colors blue/green/yellow to represent the 3 building types commercial/residential/industrial.

The release date was from the time when Nintendo didn’t give specific dates for release only month timeframes. At the time as well Maxis was independent and not owned by EA.

Direct2Drive – SimCity 4 Deluxe for $5

Even though it was released 7 years ago, SimCity 4 still stands to the test of time.  Direct2Drive is offering the digital download version of SimCity 4 Deluxe (which contains the base game and the Rush Hour expansion) for only $5.  If you have yet to play it, I have to say this is a pretty sweet deal for such a fantastic game – and the modding community is still active thanks to Simtropolis!

IGN – SimCity Deluxe iPad review

SimCity’s menus and interface look great, especially on the iPad thanks to its additional real estate. The touchscreen is an excellent way to navigate around the many options. The iPad edition adds pop-outs for checking city activity and status, making it easier to customize your experience.

In addition to the new interface, the visuals in SimCity Deluxe have been spruced up for the iPad. Everything has extra animation and really pops off the screen. It goes a long way to making your cities not look so same-ish after a while.

Touch Arcade reviews SimCity Deluxe for the iPad

Just as you’d expect, it’s better for it — it’s easier to click within the game and the UI has a lot of breathing room. I still find myself struggling to connect roads and keep things in an orderly fashion, though, I’m thinking this is more a result of the isometric camera than anything else.  Working at a slight angle isn’t easy for a city planner in the early stages of the game.

Aside from that, we’re looking at a picture perfect port with a platform-specific flaw: it tends to chug. The iPhone version of Deluxe is pretty snappy, but the iPad version, for whatever reason, suffers frame drops or otherwise general slowness.
