(PC) SimCity 4
Couple of SimCity 4 Posters
Jan 24th
Graphic artist Ocean Quigley has gone back and posted a few things from his time spent on SimCity 4. He’s shared with us a city poster rendered by Shannon Galvin which they used for marketing purposes, as well as a compilation of all the vehicles in the game put together by Michael Long. Seeing this proves that we’re long overdue for a new SimCity game. One can only wish, right?
EA Adds SimCity 4 Patches to EA.com
Nov 5th
At first it was thought that EA made a Facebook page in response to Herman Cain ripping off his plan from SimCity 4. But now there might be new evidence that this isn’t the real reason. Whist the SimCity 4 links on different EA and Sims sites redirect to the new Facebook Page, EA has recently uploaded the patches for SimCity 4 and SC4: Rush Hour and Deluxe to their site. They include patches for all regions. Could this be a coincidence or could it be a sign that EA has interest in the SimCity franchise again? Are we making too much out of this? Will we really see a Ghostbusters III and who really shot Mr Burns?

Ocean Quigley’s Projects: Road drawing in SimCity 4
Aug 6th
It has been a long time since Ocean Quigley (Art Director from SimCity 4) shared with us some insight on the development of the game. It’s been, what, 8 years and that game still looks amazing and is played by many. Well, he has just recently updated his blog to tell us about the road design and the different experiments he had to go thru to get it working. It took them a year alone to get them to work properly – and there are still features they wished they could have implemented (like cost feedback and bridge construction).

Direct2Drive – SimCity 4 Deluxe for $5
Dec 17th
Even though it was released 7 years ago, SimCity 4 still stands to the test of time. Direct2Drive is offering the digital download version of SimCity 4 Deluxe (which contains the base game and the Rush Hour expansion) for only $5. If you have yet to play it, I have to say this is a pretty sweet deal for such a fantastic game – and the modding community is still active thanks to Simtropolis!

Ocean Quigley’s Project Blog – Simcity 4 mockups of change
Apr 19th
Once again InfiniteSims has picked up on the latest post from Ocean Quigley (EA/Maxis Art Director) in which he describes the different mock-ups he used making SimCity 4 in different times of the day:
Here are a couple of design mockups I did while art-directing SimCity 4, both showing how buildings change over time.
This one shows the arc of a building’s construction, development and ultimately decay and abandonment. In SimCity, the buildings are your window onto the state of the simulation, so they needed to represent all of these states, which cumulatively tell you how well your city is doing.
And this one simply shows how buildings change over the course of a day, as their lights go off and on and the sun goes up and down. It’s the animation-test version of this design
