Fox News Hates SimCity Socieites…
Sep 6th
But for the wrong reasons. Hi I’m Black Scorpion with a SimCity related post for you. Fox News is at it again, this time they attack the “liberal agenda” of SimCity Societies. Check out the video below.
There is still life in SimCity Societies after all
Sep 11th
Many of you declared SimCity Societies to be a bust and wished EA never tarnished the SimCity name. Can’t say that I blame you, as I could see your point. However, I still had a fun time with the game and I’m sticking with it.
It seems that there is still life with the game after all, especially in the classroom. Random developers came up with an idea to turn Societies into a “green edition”. Dubbed “Green City”, the game is targeted to those in 6th – 12th grade. Following a web tutorial that can be found over at Alternative Energy, players can learn how to build using around 500 objects a “green” city. They will have to monitor the energy use from the city, the graph for growth and even establish goals as they take their city to the top!.

IGN’s review on SimCity Societies Destinations
Jul 11th
Looks as if IGN finally took the time to review SimCity Societies Destinations. The rating? A passable score of 6.7
Perhaps the best thing that we can say about Destinations is that it finally starts to make SimCity Societies feel worthy of the SimCity name. By including a gameplay mechanic that forces players to strike a balance between the amount they invest in attracting travelers and the payoffs those travelers generate, it actually feels like there’s a compelling game here. Unfortunately, the overall concept of Societies still fails to excite much interest around here and that’s probably not something that can be fixed with patches and expansions. EA is sweetening the deal by offering this expansion only as part of the forty-dollar SimCity Box. It’s not worth it if you just want Societies and Destinations, but if you’re getting it for SimCity 4, Destinations is worth at least a look.
I just wished I could enjoy the game, but I don’t want the SimCity Box and I perfer my games on disk, thank you very much. :P
GameSpot’s review for SimCity Societies Destinations
Jul 7th
I wish the game was a stand-alone product instead of packed in with games I already own or via digital download only. I cannot believe why they decided to not release it separate…
On top of it all, the visuals are still lovely, but the engine performs much better, though it’s still prone to a little chugging as you scroll across a city that is crammed with structures and decorations. With all of this content and more–new city themes, disasters, and so on–SimCity Societies: Destinations improves a game that had plenty of room to grow, and in the process, makes for a likable, charming experience that you can get lost in. It has its flaws, but it hits more than it misses.
SimCity Societies Destinations earned a 7.0 Rating
Rant about Game Patches
Jun 26th
Den of Geek brought up a great fact. There are too many game patches for available games. There used to be a time where developers took pride in their work and not release a game with many bugs, but it seems like those days are over.
For example, let’s look at two good examples: The Sims 2 series and SimCity Societies.
SimCity Societies – it took Tilted Mills 5 patches to finally have a stable game on the market. This was a span of over 6 months. If they had time to finish their product, we wouldn’t have to deal with many of the bugs that caused the game poor ratings and hate amongst gamers.
The Sims 2 series – I don’t know where to begin on this. It seems like every expansion and stuff pack they release, it just gets riddled with more and more bugs. And when they do release a patch, it causes even more issues than what it did before! The FreeTime patch comes to mind. Not to mention a lot of their games don’t even get the recognition of a patch – the community ends up fixing the game via Mod The Sims 2 or MATY. Not to mention I don’t even think the developers even acknowledge problems with their games in the first place!
Hey developers….you have some serious explaining to do!
GameZone reviews SimCity Societies Destinations
Jun 26th
All that aside, though, not much else has changed. The game still has the same general look (with a few new effects – more on that in a moment), the same sound and plays the same. Destinations does add a new layer of challenges and makes city planning a bit more involved, but in all honesty, because you could create a viable town with the free downloads and the tools in place, catering to tourists is not a must-have addition.
Of course, the game does have some fun stuff. There are new disasters that can be unleashed in your town and some of the effects that go along with the tourist attractions are a decent bit of eye candy.
GameZone gives SimCity Societies Destinations an overall 7.8 score. Not bad for an expansion of a game that did fairly poor when it was released.
SimCity Societies Destinations & The SimCity Box now available
Jun 25th
Just thought I would throw this out there for SimCity Societies fans that the new expansion pack is available for download at the EA Store. SimCity Societies Destinations is priced at $29.95 and includes the ability to create destinations for you to attract tourists to your city. I wish this would of been a stand-alone product…
For those of you that want to purchase this game in stores, you can find it in The SimCity Box which is released today. The SimCity Box is priced at $39.95 and contains SimCity 4, SimCity 4: Rush Hour, SimCity Societies, SimCity Societies Destinations, The Sims Carnival: Snap City, and a free demo of Spore’s Creature Creator. Not too shabby if you don’t own any of the games.
1UP reviews SimCity Societies Destinations
Jun 23rd
Well, SimCity Societies Destinations should now be available for Digital Download, as well as packed in with The SimCity Box in a retail store near you. How does it rate? Well…not looking good according to 1Up…
Sadly, though, urban planning isn’t the greatest challenge the series faces. In spite of five patches and this expansion, Societies still suffers from the occasional crash, slowdown issues when cities get large, and a totally inadequate zoom-out range (likely artificially induced to help mask the framerate problems). Since the graphics engine is more Prius than Corvette, it boggles the mind how the dev team can go through this many iterations and still have such a staccato game.
Anyway, other than the “Come to Lovely Simtopia!” angle, Societies remains the same as always, expansion or no. Your resident Sims can’t visit any of the tourist venues (although vacationers don’t face equivalent restrictions with normal buildings), so you’ve still gotta build your burg along pretty much the same lines and with pretty much the same tools you have always used — only now you have to leave some space for tourist stuff. Many new buildings (and new gameplay modes) are already available in free patches, so if you’re not interested in Destinations’ vacationing layer (which, to be fair, adds another honest-to-goodness challenge to the game), you don’t really need to drop another 30 bucks — unless you really, really missed that monster-attack disaster.
