EA Spring 2009 Showcase – Spore Hero for Wii gameplay footage

Dead Space Extraction for Wii kind of looks like Spore Hero….wait a minute!  So that’s EA’s plan to pull in hardcore gamers :P  Enjoy this video of Spore Hero gameplay for the Nintendo Wii – don’t mind the messed up title, LOL.

GameStop predicts Spore Hero & Spore Hero Arena release dates

Sporedum pointed out to me earlier that GameStop has given both Spore Hero (for the Nintendo Wii) and Spore Hero Arena (DS) are both set to be released on September 22.  Of course, the release date isn’t official, it’s just what they are estimating at this time.  The pricing is typical of standard Wii/DS games, priced at $50 and $30.

PocketGamer’s first look at Spore Hero Arena DS

I was beginning to wonder when we’ll know more about the other Spore games (Spore Hero for Wii, Spore Hero Arena for DS and Spore: Creature Keeper for the PC).  Looks like information is starting to come out, as PocketGamer was able to catch a glimpse of Spore Hero Arena for the Nintendo DS!

The main mode of the game is linear and level-based and has you following the story of the inhabitants of the planet, one group of which are being wiped out by the other. Of course, this enables you to get all combat-y on the bad guys without moral ambiguity. So you’ll wander around, eating things and collecting blue shards to build up and evolve your creature, and fighting.

Movement is stylus-based. You just drag it around the screen and your creature follows on. In combat, you’ll use the D-pad, which triggers moves such as spitting and striking, and you can hold down the D-pad to power up super moves.

As well as the planetary activity, you’ll get involved in the arena-based battling which give the game its name. These have you fighting against multiple enemies (up to three); either computer controlled, or against your friends in multiplayer mode.

The types of games include activities such as Capture the Egg (like Capture the Flag but with an egg) and Battle Royale, in which you have to push your opponents over the edge of a platform. The arenas will feature in game’s main mode, but you’ll also be able to select them individually from the main menu if you just want a quick blast. Lots more battle types are promised, but EA is yet to reveal them.

Details on Spore Hero Wii

Stephen Totilo from MTV Multiplay Blog spoke with Spore General Manager Lucy Bradshaw about Spore Hero for Wii.

The basic storyline of Spore Hero involves a catastrophic event on your planet thus your creature catches a ride on a meteor and plummets into a new planet.  Once you are there, you are able to interact with that planet’s creatures – either combat or social behavior.  The game will also give you quests, in which you’ll earn new abilities and unlock further areas.  An example was given that if you earn the “Jump” ability, you’ll be able to access areas that were once unreachable.

Lucy does mention that while the game has similarities from the PC version (procedural animation returns), the two are not connected in any way.  Do’h!  Would of been amazing if the Wii version could of used the creatures from the existing Sporepedia!  However, the Wii version will be getting new parts as well as new ‘motion’ controls with the Wii-Remotes motion detecting features.

Although there are no screenshots, Lucy mentions that the game fits best on the Wii with its “cheerful experience” that fits right into Nintendo’s friendly atmosphere.

“This is very playful,” she said, explaining why the game wasn’t slated for, say, the PlayStation 3. “It takes advantage of the controls explicitly. And even stylistically, when you see the game, you’ll go, ‘Oh yeah, that’s definitely a Nintendo Wii game.’” As for the controls, she said that the team is “taking a look” at the Motion Plus option for even better Wii motion-sensitivity than what is available directly out of the box.

While Motion Plus would be an extra boost, I wouldn’t count on it…And the fact that she stated what it looks like (Oh yeah, that’s definitely a Nintendo Wii game.) will most likely have gamers stating the game will look like crap! Sad to see that, but a lot of gamers bash Wii for it’s simplistic graphics and weak hardware.   I don’t care what it looks like, I’ll play it!

More Spore for 2009: 4 titles in the works

CVG has touched base with Spore senior producer Morgan Roarty on the future of Spore for the 2009 year.  Morgan stated that there are currently 4 Spore games in the work:  Spore Galactic Adventures (Spore’s first true expansion pack), Spore: Creature Keeper (standalone PC version aimed at the younger folks to raise and control creatures like Sim characters), Spore Hero (Wii) and Spore Hero Arena (DS).  Here’s a snippet from CVG:

The expansion’s targeting a “deeper variety of gameplay” based around Spore’s space stage, and the overwhelming majority of its new content will be created by the Spore community using new editing tools that’ll allow players to customise their own planets and create their own adventures to share with other gamers.

The studio’s also handling Spore: Creature Keeper, a standalone PC product targeted at a younger audience. Described as “like a mini-Sims” game, it will see players nurturing a newly born creature that has “Sims motives like energy and bladder”.

While this is all fine and dandy, I have a feeling there will be even more Spore…I mean there is still room for another expansion and possible 2-3 more parts pack!  But before they begin squeezing the franchise for all it’s work…Maxis please correct the DRM issue so you’ll stop getting bad press!  Oh, and a friendly word of advice, don’t consider Spore: Racing or Spore Sports.  That’ll just be overkill ;)

CVG will also have a preview for Spore Galactic Adventures coming up later today!  Thanks to Space Oddity’s Spore Blog for the tip!

‘Spore Hero’ for Wii, ‘Spore Hero Arena’ for DS?

My favorite Nintendo fansite, GoNintendo reported today details from a GamePro German article regarding Spore for Wii as well as a new Spore for DS.  In the article, it goes on telling us that it will not be like Spore on PC.  They even state that they have a trailer for the games in which they will publish soon.  I’m in awe wondering what the game will be like.  If anything, I have a feeling it might turn out to be in the style of an RPG.

After the PC, Nintendo DS and the iPhone will now also the Wii version of their ambitioniertem Will Wright title Spore. Under the name of spore Hero is this year an offshoot of the complex mix of genre Nintendo console.

The game principle is, however, as mentioned in Spore Creatures (Nintendo DS) and Spore for the iPhone heavily on the PC version (test at GameStar.de) differ. To what extent, we can not yet say. So far, we have only a trailer for a Electronic Arts-see event. Once this is published, you can find him on course here GamePro.de

For Nintendo DS will also be the end of the year, a new spore spore under the title Hero Arena. In this ye your creatures can compete.

UK Spore for Wii release date?

Currently, Spore for the Nintendo Wii has yet to earn a release date.  However, some information popped up today thanks to GoNintendo of a possible date September 25 for the UK.  Could it be true?  I cannot really say at this point.  Details on the Wii version has been very limited.

UK EA’s Release Dates

Spore Wii details

Huge Nintendo fan here. This is going to be troublesome indeed. Not only will Spore be coming to PC, but I also have to look out for Spore for Wii as well as the DS. Luckily, the Spore release for Wii isn’t simultaneously released with the PC and DS version. Revogamers.net has interviewed Maxis Producer Caryl Shaw during the Spore Spain presentation. She noted that the Wii version is in in the design stage and that it won’t be the same as the PC version. Check out the article for more information.

RG: Ok, so we’ve been said that the Wii version is not coming at launch…

CS: Right.

RG: … so maybe it’s going to 2009?

April (EA PR): The Wii version, we have no date for it, so we have no idea. Just initial design stage. We love the Wii, but we’re not ready to announce anything yet.

CS: Will (Wright) loves the Wii. He plays the Wii more than any other. So I think as soon as we started talking about if we should make Spore on the Wii, he was like “Oh, let’s make Spore on the Wii!” He’s very excited about it. We’re very focused right know on making the best PC game that we can, so finishing the game that I showed you and making that be the game that “sums it all” and have people, you know, fall in love with that. And then wanna look at other platforms and make games more appropriate. I mean the DS game is different because the DS is a different platform, well like the Wii, and we all know how different the Wii is.
