EA to feature user-content in mobile version of Spore
Apr 25th
In a recent interview with Tim Harrison, director of marketing for EA Europe Mobile, players will have the ability to use and download user-generated content for Spore on mobile devices.
“The great thing about it is people only use a small amount of data,” Harrison says. “It’s just a few k to download, which really helps in terms of ‘bill shock’. I think having more connected features like this in mobile games will also help with customer expectations in terms of matching the sort of online features we see in consoles games, which up to this point has been difficult for us to do in Europe.”
IGN: Spore preview for Mobile Phones
Feb 15th
Too bad I don’t own a phone! Even if I did, I don’t see how anyone can play on it’s small screen. But if you like gaming on cell phones, then you should probably look into Spore when it comes out. IGN has a preview of the game in action, along with screenshots of the game!
Spore is a one-button game. You use the action key to zip between smaller organisms out in the wild, yanking your spore around the stage. When you see a red reticle appear, just tap and you’re spore leaps into action. This sounds like a twitch game, and at first, the goal really is to rush through the stages as quickly as possible, filling your spore’s gullet with the necessary smaller bites. But as more and more bigger cells enter the mix, you need to think about how lunging (or not) at the right moment can get you out of danger. If two heavies are en route, hitting the eating button at the right time can pull you harmlessly right between them.
Wired.com Spore article shares info on Spore DS and Mobile version
Feb 13th
Spore isn’t coming to just PC and Mac. Versions of the game for Nintendo DS and mobile phones will also drop on Sept. 7.
Of course, things have been dramatically scaled back for each version. The Nintendo DS game, shown here, will concentrate on the “creature” phase. You’ll build your own critters, then take them out into the world. You’ll be able to use the DS’ internet capabilities to swap creatures with other players all over the world.
The mobile version of the game will be based on the “cell” bacteria stage, and you’ll float around and eat up other creatures in a scaled-back version of the real thing.
Wired.com managed to get an extensive first look at the Will Wright’s upcoming game Spore. Very simple read, it walks you thru the steps of taking your creation from it’s Cell stage up the evolution process.
