The Return of The Sims 2 and SimCity Websites!

We thought it was gone forever… but it’s back! The website for The Sims 2 has been restored and so has a few of the SimCity sites. It’s so awesim!

Thanks to SimsVIP for the tip about The Sims 2 site.

Confirmation That The Sims 2 Site Is Gone Forever?

Earlier today, SimGuru Graham responded to a tweet asking about thesims2.ea.com, see his response below.

Thanks to SimsVIP for the reminder.

The status of TheSims2.com

It’s been unknown for awhile what happened to the official Sims 2 Site. For many weeks, it has been broken and presumed to have closed.  However, iSims tweeted about the link earlier this morning and it now has the following notice:

Hi All,

The maintenance we had planned for the site is taking a little longer than anticipated. We estimate that it will be down for more than a week longer and will update you when we know more. We apologize for the inconvenience,

The Sims Team

Hopefully it’ll be back. I know many fans still use and play TS2 – it’s still active in terms of usage, I wouldn’t mind if it stays up for a few more years until The Sims 4 comes around before it’s gone for good. (Well, actually I don’t want to see it gone at all, but in hand of EA, it won’t be around forever)

Shoutout to the community: Help restore The Sims 2/3 Dynasty Gaming Experience

*Updated 7/3/11 with the following message from David:

After the slow and painful death of my Challenges that I have created for The Sims and The Sims 3 Series, all my old Challenges once I have retrieved them will be returning in the Simmers Heaven website.

Simmers Heaven. http://simmersheaven.com/smf/index.php

I have heard that is also an affiliate of yours as well, so I thought this would be a good opportunity to showcase the Challenges I have created in the past in this website. This might a good news story considering I lost all my Challenges and slowly coming back bit by bit, and I will be recreating what I have lost by memory. If any one wants to join the Simmers Heaven you can do by registering on the site and you will have access to loads of cool Custom Content by experienced content creators and enjoy Challenges that I have created for both TS2 and TS3. This is a site for both The Sims and The Sims 3, and a few other favourites too. Game reviews will be posted by myself as well.

Knowing that this site is read by many, I’m hoping that some of you out there can help one of our readers on solving his problem.  David, the owner of The Sims 2 & The Sims 3 Dynasty Gaming Experience Yahoo Group lost all of his challenges that he had posted on his site.  He had over 50 different unique challenges taking place, as well as over 80 misc. Sims 3 Challenges.  He’s hoping that those who took place in the challenges and had saved them could contact him at thesimdeej@yahoo.com.au and help him get his website back online!

Parsimonious–Sims Custom Content

I have been meaning to do something like this, where I showcase some awesome custom content by Simmers out there! As I looked through the site I found a comment from a simmer asking if I could say a word about Parsimonious, and that’s what I’m doing!

Parsimonious has been around since The Sims 1 (the awesome days of Maxis) and provides custom content for The Sims 1 and The Sims 2. I actually love some of the stuff on this site, and if you love custom content then I highly recommend that you visit Parsimonious and check it out!

Go and visit http://www.parsimonious.org/ now if you want awesome custom content Smile

Note: I will be doing a series of things like this, so please do feel free to show me some awesome custom content in the comments.

Summary

The Sims™ franchise, the wildly popular game series that allows players to create and live a virtual, simulated life, skyrocketed to the top of the charts when it began shipping to stores in February 2000 and quickly became a universal gaming and cultural phenomenon. The critically-acclaimed franchise celebrates an impressive over 125 million units sold to date and is translated into 22 different languages and available in 60 different countries. The Sims has inspired two more base games, The Sims 2 and The Sims 3, numerous expansion packs for PC and Mac, titles for all major console gaming systems, and games for the iPhone, iPod touch, and mobile phones.

“At first, no one believed that a videogame about people and social interaction, without shooting, driving or what passes for action, could be published successfully,” said EA President and CEO John Riccitiello. “Today this game, The Sims, has evolved to become the world’s most successful PC game and a global multi-platform success. The Sims has incredible appeal among teens and young adults, and especially among female players, has broken all the old established rules about videogames.”

The Sims franchise continues to be on the top of the charts throughout the world and is enjoyed by a wide audience of men and women from teenagers and beyond. It’s the only franchise that truly allows you to play with life.

The Sims 2 Store to close on March 31st

Ah, The Sims 2 Store.  I remember fans were outraged when EA opened this up and started charging for content.  But they kind of opened it late in the series, so it really didn’t have a purpose – especially with so many fansites out there with better content – and for free!

Well, every game has its end, and for The Sims 2, it is time to shut down the Store.  Maxoid_Hydra posted the following over on The Sims 2 BBS:

Beginning March 31st, The Sims 2 Store will be closing its doors. Any content purchased from The Sims 2 Store will no longer be available after this date. Please download your purchased content and save an archive copy for your future use by March 30th. Your purchase history can be found by logging into your EA account on The Sims 2 Store (http://thesims2store.ea.com ), selecting “My Account”, and clicking on “Purchase History” on the Account Details page. SimPoints will be available for purchase on The Sims 2 Store until March 15th. If you would like to use your SimPoints balance to buy additional content on The Sims 2 Store, you must do so before March 15th.

If you have an EA Account Balance, that balance can be used on other EA sites. Visit http://www.eacashcard.com for information on how to use your EA Account Balance.

If you have a SimPoints balance, you can also use your SimPoints to purchase content on The Sims 3 Store. Your SimPoints balance is associated with your EA Account and will remain available for use on The Sims 3 Store after The Sims 2 Store closes. However, please note that to use The Sims 3 Store you must be a member of The Sims 3 Community (https://www.thesims3.com/register.html). Visit www.TheSims3.com/Store for additional information. Content purchased on The Sims 3 Store is not compatible with The Sims 2 game.
