The Sims 2 Series
NPD PC Chart for the week ending on January 24, 2009

You know, has anyone ever created a machinima of both Sims and Warcraft together in which the characters duel it out? We’d all know the Warcraft characters would simply win, but it’d be entertaining to see. However, if it were to be based on the NPD chart of Jan. 18 through the 24, we’d see The Sims to take the throne…

Did Fox Studios wise up and axed ‘The Sims Movie’?
Jan 20th
Browsing IMDB yesterday for more information on a recent movie I seen (My Bloody Valentine 3D), I decided to check out the status of ‘The Sims Movie’ to see how things were going. Surprised, it turns out that the original IMDB page for ‘The Sims Movie’ is no longer listed. Confused, I double checked John Davis’ profile (the producer) to see what’s going on. Well, it’s not listed on his upcoming work either.
Did EA and Fox Studios decide to axe the idea of creating a movie based on The Sims? The truth may never be known, but at this time things aren’t looking good. The idea for the movie was about 2 teens who picked up ‘The Sims Infinity Pack’ at an odd video game store, and when they play the game the kids start to notice things taking effect in the real world. They decide to use it to their advantage but then things quickly turn against them.
InfiniteSim’s 2nd birthday
Jan 18th

I’d like to take a minute to give a tip of my hat as well as my congrats to InfiniteSims for their 2nd birthday. I’ve been a fan of Jinx’s work for quite some time, and he’s usually up-to-date with information even before I am! His hard work and dedication has turned out to proven successful and is one of the highest ranked Sims fansites on the net. I wish him an excellent 2nd birthday and I hope for many more years to come! Just save me a piece of cake, will ya? :P

The Sims 2 Store – new “Art Nouveaulicious” set with over 50 items
Jan 7th
I wonder how long they plan to stick with the beta tag underneath the store name. Maxis, the store has existed for some time, I think it’s passed the beta stage!
Anyhow, for those that love The Sims 2 Store, EA has created a new set called “Art Nouveaulicious”. Their newest set has over 50 all new and exclusive objects, clothing, hair and home decorative items. I’m not calculating the set’s full price this time, but expect to be broke if you want to purchase everything.
With the past 3 sets they released, they have enough to put out a new Stuff Pack if they wanted to…Makes me wonder…

Feds stand up to get ready to lay the smackdown on DRM
Jan 6th
2008 was a very busy year in the video game industry. It was also busy in the sense of lawsuits. Put those two together, and you’ll get to the point of this topic: SecuROM. SecuROM brought hell to the gamers last year, especially with the dealings of Spore. While it has existed for a few years now, SecuROM mostly reared it’s ugly head in September when Spore was released. Various protests were held (1 star amazon rating), lawsuits created, and the fact that it didn’t accomplish what it was suppose to do…in which resulted in the game being downloaded to make it the most pirated game of all time.
Well, apparently the topic of DRM has reached the Federal Trade Commision, and the goverment agency has decided to hold a town meeting. Set for Wednesday, March 25, 2009, in Seattle, the event aims for the following:
Digital rights management (DRM) refers to technologies typically used by hardware manufacturers, publishers, and copyright holders to attempt to control how consumers access and use media and entertainment content. Among other issues, the workshop will address the need to improve disclosures to consumers about DRM limitations. Interested parties may submit written comments or original research on this topic.
The best thing about this is that we have a voice! The FTC allows us to submit requests to be panelists and to recommend other topics to discuss. You can submit this to drmtownhall@ftc.gov by January 30, 2009. Depending on the expertise, FTC could select you to represent a range of views. Make your voice heard and submit your complaints today!
Oh, and in case people start bickering on DRM, I thought I would throw this quote out there from ARS Technica:
Too often, customers have no clear picture of what else they may be installing onto their computer when they buy a game, or how those programs could affect the day-to-day use of that computer. There is no disclosure, no accountability, and very little education going on around the issue of DRM and its related technologies.
It’s likely the discussion will be lively, with both publishers and consumer rights associations weighing in. The core issue is a simple one, however: consumers deserve to know what they’re installing, and exactly what it does. It’s looking increasingly likely that consumers may need the FTC’s help to make sure what happens during software installations becomes as transparent and open as possible.
