EA releases many De-Authorization Tools: MySims, Spore, Apartment Life, Ikea and Mansion now available

I hope EA is considering ditching SecuROM on all of their games.  Today, they have made an effort to put one step further in the crusade against SecuROM by issuing De-Authorization tools for many of their games.  They now have tools for MySims PC, Spore (actually Spore’s been available for some time), Spore Creature Creator, The Sims 2 Apartment Life, The Sims 2 Ikea Home Stuff and The Sims 2 Mansion and Garden Stuff.

Games released after May 2008 allowed users to authorize up to 5 computers to play the game on at the same time.  By using these tools, an authorization slot will be freed up and will let you install the game on another computer.  If you want to reauthorize, all you need to do is relaunch the game.

While sure, this isn’t exactly what we wanted, it’s a start.  I’d love to see them take effort in removing SecuROM from the game’s exe file, but chances are that would require more effort as they’d have to recompile the game’s code again without the SecuROM program embedded…

Click the box to grab the De-Authorization Tool that you need.  I’ll add these to SimPrograms sometime tomorrow – it’s getting late :P

A very bad The Sims 2 IKEA Home Stuff review

Talk about brutal…GamesRadar is a tad upset with The Sims 2 Ikea Home Stuff pack.  In their review (I’m not sure if it should even be called a review…) they rated the game with a big fat 3 out of 10.  They even state under what they hate as “Kill Me Now”.

Myself?  I don’t know anything about Ikea, but the designs of the objects look extremely nice.  I don’t think it deserves such a low rating…

NPD PC Chart for the week ending on July 12, 2008: Nancy Drew tops Maxis’ games?!?!

I don’t understand…Maxis has been dominating the NPD charts for ages with their games…sure, there are some other games that become #1 for a brief moment…but a Nancy Drew game?  That’s unheard of!  Maybe there was a miscount…or perhaps the company that produced the game bought a ton of copies for themselves…yeah…that’s it.

1. Nancy Drew: The Phantom Of Venice
2. Spore Creature Creator
3. The Sims 2 Double Deluxe
4. Diablo Battle Chest

Gamepyre reviews The Sims 2 Ikea Home Stuff

For example, I have no complaints in the actual stuff department. All the objects are rendered beautifully, and with the exception of the bathroom and the kitchen, you can decorate an entire house using just IKEA products. As a matter of fact, all three houses featured in the screenshots only use IKEA stuff (minus the bathroom and kitchen). The only exception to my design was the outside decorations like the white picket fence, and the stone driveway featured with one of the houses.

Honestly, I think that the only reason we do not see any kitchen or bathroom appliances in the IKEA expansion pack is because the Sims 2 already has a kitchen and bathroom expansion pack and EA doesn’t want the sales of that pack to go down. The only problem with the graphics is the 55 wall paint and flooring designs. In my opinion, about 75% of them are for the lack of a better word, lame. But there are a few in the 55 that are worth applying to your home. You be the judge. However, considering that until this expansion pack I was not aware of IKEA, my taste in decoration is probably not that good.

Overall, the game scores an 86 out of 100 from Gameprye
