EA Independence Day App Sale

In celebration of US’ Independence Day, EA’s titles hit a 99 cent floor selling the Sims 3 Ambitions and World adventures for $9.99—like they did at Christmas 2010.

The Sims 3 Ambitions for the iPhone: Now costs as much as its worth

Thanks to Sunset Valley Times, we now know that EA has just recently lowered the price of The Sims 3 Ambitions to a flabbergasting 0.79 euros ($0.99), that’s 80% lower, for Thanksgiving.  By the way, Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Now, like all apps, all we can tell you is to head off to the App Store to take advantage of this fine deal.

If you enjoy the other Sims games definitely consider getting this as well. It is more of a addon than a complete game. Much what I thought about the World Adventures game, but the difference is that you at least get the Sims feel in this one. There is no flying around the world, and the mundane life feels more real. Of course being a rock star might be a bit out of the ordinary mundane world of the Sims. The mini games are generally improved, and controls quite alright.

For those unfamiliar with the franchise (if that’s even possible), this new iteration is probably a great starter kit. For diehards like ourselves, the open-endedness of this is a great, enjoyable time sink, to be sure, but it’s also a tiny bit disappointing. Obviously we don’t expect the full features of desktop versions of The Sims 3, but we can dare to dream of a day when the iPhone version hooks into the actual game, allowing us a little midday peek into the more fascinating lives of our smaller, incoherent selves. Regardless, EA’s glorious franchise loses nothing by wasting our precious downtime in yet another way, and while the mobile versions of The Sims may never replace their full counterparts, these games certainly push the limits of the ‘casual’ gaming category.

AppModo – The Sims 3 Ambitions (iPhone) review

The graphics in The Sims 3: Ambitions are up to what you would expect in a The Sims game, as well as what you have come to expect from EA Mobile titles. In the “close-up” points in the game (i.e. in your own home, at the lake, or visiting someone else), the graphics are very crisp and detailed. In the “full town” view, all sims look almost as game pieces scooting on to their next errand or destination. The graphics are a little less detailed, but it doesn’t really matter because you’re only going from one place to the next in the “town” mode.

IGN reviews The Sims 3 Ambitions for iPhone

IGN’s verdict along with 4 new images:

Sims 3: Ambitions is a great addition to the franchise for iPhone. The focus on careers with actual activities gives it additional depth, as does the ability to create a family with the new babies. Ambitions also features a refined interface that makes it easier to keep tabs on your Sims, including their wishes, needs, and desires. This is a great download for Sims fans.
