Sims Getting Smarter: AI in The Sims 3
Mar 10th
IGN has updated with a new video (posted in a newspost below this one), 3 screenshots and another new preview for the game.
Ben Bell, the executive producer for the game, also explained how the AI powers the personalities of the sims that are not in your household or family. These are basically the “extras” that populate the town. “The other sims have their own personality traits. And then they have relationships. So the combination of relationship and traits is what is driving their autonomy. They also have the same kinds of needs as your sims, so they also need to eat and sleep, pee and socialize, so they’re all trying to satisfy those things,” he said. “And at the same time, we’re trying to keep them clustered around where you are, too. So if you’re spending a lot of the time at the park the other sims are going to come down to the park.”
New Sims video: A day in the life of Grant Rodiek’s Sims
Mar 10th
Sims 3 Maniacos discovered a new Sims 3 video with producer Grant Rodiek overviewing the life of 3 sims that he has created: Kim, Piper and Liam. Running to the bathroom during gameplay, The Sims took a life of their own and follow their own decisions. What did they do? Well watch below!
Haha, looks as if Liam is a player! The thought of him owning a huge portrait of himselve hanging in the bedroom falls on the creepy side of things though.
Pint Shot Riot music to be featured in The Sims 3
Mar 9th
I am so out of loop with the music that is to be featured with The Sims 3. Bang Camaro, Dexter Freebish and now Pint Shot Riot…I’ve never heard of any of these bands! When are they going to include Tenacious D, Metallica, Guns N’ Roses…those are the bands that matter! Oh well, guess I’ll find out if their music is any good when the game hits.
According to the band’s website, Pint Shot Riot’s single ‘Punches Kicks Trenches And Swords’ will appear as a track as it hadn’t really had any international exposure.
Thanks to SnootySims for the heads up!

Special thanks to SimsDeToi for finding 2 new CAS screens!
Lifetime Wishes are long-term goals for players to focus their Sims towards if they prefer a little more direction. Your Sims are able to choose a Lifetime Wish based on their traits. Completing a Lifetime Wish may require your Sims to master certain skills, reach the top of a career, become a local celebrity, or perhaps even a heartbreaker. By completing a Lifetime Wish, your Sims will earn enough Lifetime Happiness points to choose from a variety of whacky Sims objects and powerful traits like Steel Bladder, Legendary Host or the Teleportation Pad.
Based on Your Traits, You Could Strive to be a:
- Professional Author
- World Renowned Surgeon
- Become a Superstar Athlete
- CEO of a Mega-Corporation
- Hit Movie Composer
- Heartbreaker
- Rock Star
- Or, Many More!
Prima Games Author Blog – The Sims 3 “Making Me” and “Create-A-Style”
Mar 8th
The authors of the Prima Games magazines posted on their blog two newsposts from their time with The Sims 3. One covers the Create-A-Style mode and the other talks about one of the authors creating themselves within the game (it’s about a week old).
No longer can I just build a personal study with a desk, chair, computer, and a bookcase. Now I have control over every detail of these objects. I have this thing about matching. By “thing,” I mean freakish obsession that makes decorating with me about as fun as walking into a glass door — over and over. I decided to do my Sim’s study over in wood, starting with a bookcase. There are lots of wood textures to choose from. After spending several minutes browsing in the Create-a-Style tools, I settled on a rich cherry. Now it was time to match the desk, chair, and even the easel I has artfully placed in the corner, tilted in front of a huge window. Instead of having to click on each object and then root around in all of the textures and find the one I previously picked, I just clicked on the bookcase to bring up its texture pre-set and dragged it over the other objects. Immediately, the chair matched the bookcase. Then the desk. I was seconds away from making the computer on the desk wooden, but I managed a little self-control. I may be crazy, but I’m not silly.
After tugging and tucking, I dug into the traits selection. You can select five traits that flesh out your Sim’s personality. At first, I loaded myself up with honestly, industriousness, a sense of humor, kitchen skills and luck. Oh, I was a real extrovert that was the life of the party and the kind of employee that rockets up the career ladder on the wings of spunk and vivaciousness. But then I took the same kind of honesty I applied to my Sim’s physical appearance and used it to work on her personality. I kept the sense of humor and luck because those are real. But in remaining slots, my clicks turned into confessions. I am at times lazy. The stack of dishes in my sink sometimes reveals my week’s eating habits much like strata in rocks tells a geologist about the fossil record and volcanic activity. Those kitchen skills? Gone. Mama Browne makes mac-and-cheese from scratch. I struggle with the boxed kind.

GameSpot preview: What’s Really New in Sims 3, Plus Goals and Ambitions
Mar 6th
All right, what a great update today! Gamespot brings to us 5 new images from The Sims 3 (The lab and astronaut images are awesome!) as well as a preview and even a video interview (I don’t remember, but I think it’s an old one…added it though in case someone may of missed it!). Check out all of the goodies below!
Buy and Build modes have been tweaked in The Sims 3, and neighborhood lots will also work differently. Previously, furniture for your house was sorted by function and type; now they’ll have a revamped room-specific sorting list as well. The larger part of the story of the Buy and Build modes will be the use of create-a-style to paint all of your furniture, as well as your house, with whichever patterns you want as freeform wallpaper and carpeting–such as with, let’s say for the sake of example, leopard print. (We tried this, and you can absolutely have leopard-print sofas in a room with all leopard-print walls.) Swapping in custom-built items created by the fanatically loyal Sims community will also be made easier in The Sims 3 with a built-in application that runs out of the game’s launcher (as opposed to having to quit the game, open up a Web browser, and pulling up the “Exchange” community site, which is being updated to include YouTube-like and Facebook-like functionality, such as blogs, friends lists, favorites lists, and user ratings). In addition to uploading and downloading furniture, customized sims characters, and housing to and from the community site, The Sims 3 will have an in-game movie-making tool that will let you upload and download videos to and from the Exchange. More details on that at a later date.
TheSims3.com – Creator’s Camp update Week #5
Mar 6th
TheSims3.com has published information on The Sims 3 Creator’s Camp that was held back in January. Each week, they will bring to us two new creator profiles and share with us the items that they created.
This week marks Week #5 and it’s update is with content creators TSR_Dot and Padre.
TSR_DOT utilized the Create a Style tool to create fixtures and furniture that complement each other perfectly. Within the tools she was able to customize patterns and save presets that could later be applied to any object she chose. She was able to create a series of matching bedroom and kitchen furniture with Create a Style. From the bed to the cabinets to the dressers and mirrors, the furniture is finished in a clean white wood with golden-rod accents.
Padre describes his most memorable experience from playing The Sims as the very first time he offered a mesh for upload to the community where it was accepted and downloaded by other players. Best known in the community for creating custom meshes and home décor, Padre brought a clean yet eclectic style to the Content Creators Camp.
With a collection of Sims, Lots, and Objects Padre offers a wide variety of items on the Exchange. His content ranges from the ultra posh, modern home titled Zen to the UG. Lee bed and dresser set which is… well, I’m sure you can guess
