(PC) Late Night
Exclusive Interview with Craig & Sims 3 Console/Late Night Producers – Part 1
Sep 19th
I (Simillion) got the chance to come in communication with a very generous fellow by the name of Craig who had the chance to visit the London Sims 3 Event. He was able to pass along some questions I had about The Sims 3 for Consoles as well as Late Night to the producers of said games. Great big thanks to Craig for giving me this opportunity! :) Here are the questions:
Simillion: Are there any big features missing or added with the Console’s version considering the limits and advances with consoles these days?
Craig: From watching it for a few hours, Sims on Console is a different kind of Sims experience so it’s not really the fact that anything’s missing (there’s still Create A Style, lots of interactions and more). There is more stuff that’s “achievement” style – so there’s a greater emphasis on fulfilling Sims’ wishes, needs and desires.
Simillion: Do you think the current Sims 3 console games included in production are enough to satisfy the Community? Did you manage to hear if it will be compatible with say, Xbox 360 Kinect (*note – or PS3 Move*)?
Craig: Not heard anything about a Kinect version yet. Who knows in the future though?

Simillion: What are the biggest differences with the console versions from the PC version?
Craig: Karma powers! They give a great new way for you to help or hinder the life of your Sims and those around them.
Producer: We saw fire being rained on houses, a Sim getting “lucky” karma put on him and being amazing at everything he did…really looks fun

Another difference is that there’s no buyable extra content (like the sims store) on the console versions at launch. You’ll be able to design and share your own stuff just like the PC version, and EA will see how much fans enjoy using this. They may introduce content you can buy on Xbox Live/PSN etc in future.
There’s also some neat Facebook integration for consoles – posting your achievements and what you’re doing in-game on FB from within the game.
Simillion: Was it EA’s intention to include The Sims 2 Apartment Life’s features in The Sims 3 Late Night?
Producer: [The producer for Late Night said that they] were introducing / improving the features from old sims expansions and putting them in different settings this time round, then adding new things. So although you may see some features from Sims 2 expansion packs in those for the Sims 3, they’ll be improved and changed with a different angle. No new sims 3 pack will be directly the same theme as a sims 2 one – you’ll see stuff that’s familiar from the sims 2, and stuff that’s brand new!
Well you know EA. Okay… well maybe you don’t, but when you interview them you figure out that they’re very confidential…and busy, so a couple of questions (happens to be some of my favorites *-* about the return of OFB in The Sims 3 and a few more) went unanswered, but according to Craig, he’s in contact and will hopefully answer a few more I have! Hence the title “Part 1″
SimFans – huge report of The Sims 3 Late Night (many new images)
Sep 18th
Daniel over at SimFans is a freakin’ cool guy. He has done so much to help me out in terms of trying to get connected with EA Germany (he was the one who helped with my interview in the September 2010 German Sims Magazine) and was even kind enough to translate his whole Late Night report to English so our visitors can read! He brought a ton of information to the report – a ton of new images, a lot of information and even an interview with EA Marketing Manager Karen Tong (which was posted earlier today). Speaking of which, I did not mention this earlier due to the lack of time, but he passed along my question of using the Sims 3 engine of the town for a next-gen SimCity. They need to get on this!
I do suggest you to head on over to SimFans and read it for yourself. I love this town. In fact, even Winston loves this town. And you know it has to be good if he loves it

“I love this town!”

The Sims 3 Late Night – Producer’s Blog on Celebrity
Sep 16th
New blog posting can be found over at the official Sims 3 website about celebrities in The Sims 3 Late Night, along with a new image. Finally, you’re Sims can become true Superstars. I don’t think it will ever top the original Sims 1 expansion though. I’m a sucker for the original series
I rarely make a trip to the grocery store without thumbing through a few of the celebrity gossip magazines at the checkout counter. I wouldn’t say I’m obsessed with celebrities, but their lives are fascinating, or at least the twist we put on them is.
This is part of what made celebrities such a compelling feature for us when designing The Sims 3Late Night. Our community is filled with gifted, creative, and hilarious storytellers and celebrities are the perfect fit. Their glitzy stories and the great gameplay built around them makes them one of the strongest additions to The Sims 3.
Being a celebrity is all about status and you must start at the bottom. As your Sims visit the various clubs and bars around town they may see a few celebrities peek in. Only low-level celebrities will show up at these clubs – 5-Star Celebrities tend to stick to the VIP lounges in the best establishments.
The first step is to impress the celebrity. You can pick a variety of topics about which to boast, including your Sim’s financial status or career. Your Sim can even lie about things, like say they are a great guitarist when they don’t even own a guitar. If things go well, the celebrity will be impressed and your Sim can start to hang out with the celebrity.
Impressing fellow celebrities is just one way to improve your Sim’s celebrity status. Your Sim can buy a round of drinks for the bar, for example, to prove they are a big spender. The system is fairly open for experimentation and should be a lot of fun for players who enjoy socialization!
Becoming a celebrity isn’t nearly as much fun as being a celebrity. Celebrities are granted discounts at businesses throughout town. Few things are as satisfying as entering a trendy bar, only to be told your Sim’s Simoleons aren’t any good the drink is on the house!
Paparazzi will take photographs of your celebrity Sim. Even regular Sims will break out their cell phones to snap quick shots of your Sim while out on the town.
Bouncers will recognize your Sim and will quickly open up the velvet ropes for your Sim. This means your Sim is able to enter the best clubs, with most exclusive activities, clientele, and the best food and drinks. There are scummy dive bars, high-end lounges, and dance clubs just waiting for your incredibly famous Sim to arrive. Some even have VIP lounges…
The hills of Bridgeport located on the other side of the town’s famous bridge are dotted with gorgeous, massive mansions filled with celebrities and their odd stories. Your Sim can move into one of these houses and protect it with an electronic gate, or they can stick to one of the expensive high-rise penthouses downtown.
Once your celebrity Sim has chosen a house worthy of their fame, it’s time to fill it with several of the new high-end items found in The Sims 3Late Night. These include the gigantic wall- mounted digital fish tank, a bubble bar, a grand piano, and, of course, the super luxurious hot tub!
Everything is more fun when your Sim’s are celebrities. The Sims 3 Late Night is filled with ways for your Sims to be someone special … in a celebrity sense. We cannot wait to read your stories of the rich and famous!
Sims 3 Cri – Celebrities and Vampires from Late Night preview
Sep 16th
At last, Sims 3 Cri has wrapped up their full preview on Late Night with the two remaining articles detailing Celebrities and Vampires. As much as we already know, I can’t say if there will be anything new for you to pick up – but for those that haven’t been up to date on all things Late Night related, it may just be what you are looking for!
Huge thanks to Simillion for pointing this out to me.
Celebrities have many pros and cons: although they have free access everywhere, exclusive clubs with exclusive items, discounts and gifts, they are also victims of paparazzi. If a celebrity makes something wrong or is caught in a fight, paparazzi can take pictures, so your VIP will have to do something for that, like trying to bribe the photographer or going to the City Hall and sue him. However, celebrities need paparazzi as much as paparazzi need celebrities: it is thanks to them that VIPs are so popular (gossips, newspapers..). So, celebrities can be paid to talk about someone or something, be in a particular place and be the talk of the town. Paparazzi’s scoops can be of any kind.
As for motives, the only difference with normal Sims (in add to the bars color that is dark and not green as usually) is the Hunger bar, that has been replaced with Thirst. Vampires can eat normal food, but that won’t affect them, since their only meal is blood (so they cannot die of Hunger but of Thirst, creating a new kind of ghost. Actually, they can die for everything except Hunger). And who knows what happens if they eat garlic..
