LootNinja – The Sims 3 World Adventures review (part 3) – France

The last of LadyM’s review is now online, this time she explores France in World Adventures!

While at the nectar factory she went exploring in the basement and found a pool of juice to explore. She back flipped into it and eventually found some relics at the bottom. Outside the nectar factory she went to pick grapes and found a very unique item. I have to say I got very excited when I saw it. It was a gnome, but not just a regular gnome…

.. it looked like a little Napoleon and it was laying on it’s side sucking it’s thumb. She picked him up, named him and put it in her backpack and took it home. The gnome was placed in her garden and we soon found out that it moves. The next day it was standing up straight like any other gnome and the next it was laying down again. I’m hoping to find a different gnome in each country. That would be so cool.

LootNinja – The Sims 3 World Adventures review (part 2) – Egypt

LadyM is back for another trip, this time to Al Simhara, Egypt!  What mysteries and situations will she get herself into this time?  Well you’re just going to have to read for yourself…I promise it won’t be a bore!

The deeper I got into the tombs, the more complex the puzzles became, but the treasure found along the way was well worth it. Ancient coins, old relics and I found the one thing that you can only find in Egypt…

.. that’s right a mummy! My Sim opened a treasure chest and activated a mummy. The mummy is very slow and was cool to look at. Not knowing what I should do, she did nothing. Bad move. The mummy jumped her and beat the crap out of her and knocked her out. On the good side, he did not curse her which would eventually mean her death if not removed.

LootNinja – The Sims 3 World Adventures review (part 1) – China

I quickly found that these Adventures were down right fun. They were like a scavenger hunt giving you a starting location to collect an object, once collected you take the object to a certain Sim and he would send you on another mission. My first mission was to find an ancient object in an old Chinese tomb. With a special key they gave me I could access the door and gain entrance. Each room had a different puzzle to solve, some were really easy and others a bit harder. The puzzle might include a pad on the floor to stand on, a hole in the wall to inspect or a pile of rubble to clear. Each new room was dark until entered, using the same concept as a fog of war.

MyGaming – The Sims 3 World Adventures review

When exploring one of the many tombs, the new gameplay mechanics kicks in and the game changes from sandbox playpen to casual adventure game where pressure plates must be stood upon, statues must be moved and walls inspected to reveal hidden passages. To discuss the specific topic with local Sims they will need to be befriended before they are willing to spill the beans. Collecting items on the map will have the Sim rushing across town , collecting the items which appear with big icon’s on the Town Map.

It is right here where the Sims World Adventures will lose many of the more serious gamers. The “puzzles” are painfully easy, and the design and layout of the tombs are samey and minimalist at best.  Since the adventure mechanics are designed within the confines of the Sims engine, the traps, loot and switches are fairly easy to spot. Discussing something with another Sim is a trial and error affair, while item collection requires no input from the player other than clicking the big blue icon highlighting it on the town map.  Micro managing your Sim’s action, while on one of these adventures will also mean pausing often to stop the Sim’s mind, or the Sim him[her]self, from wandering while the player looks for the next wall to inspect, rock to pick up or dialog option to choose.

EA Store deal – Buy all 3 Sim Games, save $20

Not really that good of a deal in my opinion…speaking of which if you are reading this site wouldn’t you already have The Sims 3?  Meh, I guess it would make a good gift for a friend/family or for those who are still hanging onto The Sims 2.

Thanks Sims Slovenija!

UK: Top 20 PC Games Chart ending January 30, 2010

Mass Effect 2 is the new ‘hotness’ in the gaming world, which explains why it knocked The Sims 3 and World Adventures out of their normal spots.  That’s okay though…unlike The Sims games, Mass Effect 2 will not hold its spot for long!

Centrum Simow – ‘Around the Sims’ wallpaper

I tried coming up with a new design for a wallpaper this evening, but I failed pretty badly so it’s back to the drawing board for me.  In the meantime, why not check out this amazing wallpaper made by Centrum Simow titled ‘Around the Sims’?  I’ve already added it to my collection of Sims wallpaper, so I eagerly await it to appear during my random wallpaper rotation (a feature that I love in Windows 7)!

UK: Top 20 PC Games Chart ending January 23, 2010

Hey UKer’s…you really ought to start purchasing different games :P  It seems as if I’m looking at the same chart from previous weeks – in the world of Sims/Spore, everyone is holding onto their same position!  I suppose that is all right, but I would really like to see Spore move up a notch or two.  Get to work and grab yourself a copy!

SnootySims – An interview with Evan Taubenfeld

SnootySims scored an interview with Evan Taubenfeld, one of the artists whose song was converted to Simlish for The Sims 3 World Adventures.

How did you ‘learn’ this odd language? Did you, for example, listen to other Simlish songs for inspiration?
EA actually has Simlish translators on staff who help us out. They sent me a copy of the new lyric with phonetic pronunciations and I used that when I re-sang it.

Did it take longer then usuall to record it?
Yup, I mean, not only did I have to get a good vocal performance, but it was a whole new language for me.

The Sims Zone – Indepth with The Sims 3 World Adventures: Part 1

Andy over at The Sims Zone has started his in-depth review of The Sims 3 World Adventures.  Part 1′s segment involves the mechanics behind traveling and proper visa management.

Once a sim starts to go on a world adventure, they begin with a Level 0 visa in each of the three countries. Without any other extensions, it means that the default length of time that they can stay is 3 days.

From experience, I have found that three days is not enough in most cases. Three days is NOT enough in most cases. To be in sight of the relic you have been searching for, only to find you are on the way back home is incredibly irritating.

In order to improve the level of visa and the length of their stay, they have to accumulate enough visa points. Visa points are gained from completing many of the adventuring opportunities that come their way while they are abroad.
