Package Managers

These tools should work if you have The Sims 2 or its expansions for the PC. They allow you to manage or edit “.package” files (.package files are your game downloads). To download the files, you may either click the ‘Download Here’ button to start the process or you may be directed to a specific site where you can download it from there. You can also view a larger picture of the program by clicking on the thumbnail image provided.

If so, and you are a moderate to hardcore Sims 2 downloader, or just want to keep things organised, then you need Delphy’s Download Organiser!

It’s a download scanner which supports the following:

• Builds a database of files so you don’t have to scan every time
• Gets the description and titles from the packages directly
• Identifies the package type
• Allows filtering on: Filename, Title, Description, Subfolder, Download Type and Install Date, Broken BodyShop files and Orphans
• Allows sorting on all of the above fields
• Has right-click context functionality to move files (either to an existing download folder from a drop down, or to a new folder entirely)

This is designed specifically for Mac users but can also be used by Windows users. Instructions for that are below. Mac UnPac is simple, but has the following features:

• See What You’re Installing: View the name, size, and custom content type of each package contained within the Sims2Pack before you install it!
• Remove Unwanted Packages: Remove any items from the Sims2Pack file before you install it, thus saving time and preventing every random object in the world from entering your downloads folder.

MTS2 Q-Xpress Installer

Q-Xpress is designed to be an extension of ModTheSims2‘s downloads system, making it faster and easier to use. By clicking on the Q-Xpress Install link listed for any of the website’s content downloads, you can add it to the Q-Xpress download queue and we’ve gathered a hefty list of the files you want, you can click install and let Q-Xpress do the work for you!

In order to use the links now available on their website, you must first download the program. You can download the latest full build by clicking the download link at their website.

Now, just simply run the installer and click on one of the website links. The program will start and you’ll be on your way!

If you find yourself having a bit of trouble with the program, there’s a dedicated support forum now on ModTheSims2 that can be reached by clicking the Support Forums link at the top of their page.

Package Watcher

Do you have over 500 different packages installed into the downloads folder, and it’s a total mess? This program will keep track of any new files you have added, hence Packet Watcher.

Basically what you do is start the program, have it start watching, install the package(s) or simpack. Then it’ll remember what files you’ve installed. You can then have it delete them in the future.

Sims 2 Folder Decrudulator is a quick and dirty program for finding unwanted files in your Sims 2 download directory. I often found it annoying that when counting how many downloads I have in my game that Windows would count all the other junk that ended up in that folder – but no more! The tool not only finds the files, but provides an intuitive method of removing them.

Sims 2 File Maid

If you’re used to Sim File Maid, Sim File Maid 2 is a snap. Drag your zips/rars with downloadable goodies onto The Lawn and she’ll do the rest. For file types that Maxis actually has installer technology for, The Maid will “double-click” the file for you. So if you see weird boxes pop-up, it’s probably The Sims 2 Installer.

Sim File Maid 2 supports the following file-types: .sims2skin*, .sims2pack*, .package, .zip, .rar. File-types denoted with an asterisk (*) are actually installed by Maxis’ Installer thing. The Maid will “double-click” the files for you, however, to automate the process.

Sims 2 Hack Conflict Detection Utility

This small program will look for multiple packages in your Sims 2 Downloads folder that modify the same global procedure. If two packages modify the same global procedure, they might very well conflict with each other, causing one or both to break.

James wrote this program for his own use after having several hack conflicts. It is a very simple program. It only finds the possible conflicts. It is up to you to resolve any conflicts that are detected.

Sims 2 Pets Custom Content Updater

The Sims 2 Pets Custom Content Updater is a program designed to help you update your custom content to be compatible with, and usable by, the pets in the new expansion.

Simply pick a directory and it will list all the new object meshes in that directory. You can then view the price, name, description, and catalog sort of the item and update it if need be.

It’s a very simple process!

Sims2Pack Clean Installer

Sims2Pack Clean Installer is an excellent program that will let you browse through .Sims2Pack files to see what content is stored inside of them. It works with skins, objects, walls and floors. It will even allow you to view the content stored inside House Files and allow you to weed through the content to take the stuff out of the house that you don’t want!

Sims2Packer

Sims2Packer lets you put Body Shop Part files (*.package) into a *.sims2skin file. These are more user-friendly to install. This tool is unsupported, use on your own risk. DLLs included. Read Readme file before use. It would also be best to have BodyShop installed too.

Sims 2 RoboFileMaid 3000

The Sims 2 RoboFileMaid 3000 simplifies the process of downloading and installing new objects for The Sims 2 by implementing Drag & Drop operations, Directory Monitoring, and file downloading. This program can even be associated with Q-Xpress Links from Mod The Sims 2

Sims 2 RoboFileMaid 3000 is very simple to use! Just drag all of your .Package, .RAR, .ZIP, .SIM2SKIN and .SIM2PACK files onto the picture surface and Voilà, your downloads have gone where they are supposed to. You can also Drag & Drop links from a webpage and she’ll work her magic.

One of the best features this program has is Directory Monitoring. For example, lets say you plan on doing a lot of downloading. Just open the RoboMaid click on the button at the upper left and select Change Monitoring Directory. Select the place your files download to and your done! The RoboMaid will automatically process the downloaded files and place any .package, .SIM2PACK, and .SIM2SKIN files in your downloads folder!

The Compressorizer!

The Compressorizer! will allow you to compress package files in your downloads folder to smaller, more manageable sizes, freeing up space. (Thus making room for even MORE downloads for you download junkies!) On some computers, it also speeds up load time.

The Sims 2 Content Manager

The Sims 2 Content Manager is a simple tool that allows you to view modified content added to your game. You can then enable, disable or delete the content from this tool, and have this reflected in The Sims 2 game and it’s expansion packs. The Sims 2 Content Manager Tool can also be used to determine where you found pieces of content on The Sims 2 Exchange. You must have The Sims 2 installed to use this tool.

The Sims Package Selector (Auto load Appropriate Editor)

If you mod for both The Sims 2 and The Sims 3, with this utility you will only have to double-click on a package file and it will automatically load into the correct package editor (fully configurable, of course).

This utility will associate itself as the default program for opening Sims2/Sims3 .package files.

It will determine if it is a Sims2 or Sims3 package and pass it on to the appropriate package editor.
**NOTE: The full path to the package file is passed to the executable, on the commandline, currently if any other “arguments” are required to pass in a filename to the application.

This will work for SimPE, S3PE, and Postal.
